Thanks. I think I’ll just play around with the game in the 11 days before the new league starts.

I don’t have a gaming PC yet, I’m going to build one at some point, so I’ll be on Xbox most likely.

Grim Dawn is the most underrated game of the last 10 years. Fight me.

I just started playing it about a week ago, off-and-on. Seems good. Not ready to make that declaration yet, but I know it has a great cult fanbase. Both are ARPGs, but really different feel from PoE. Meta is a lot different.

Will probably be setting it down for the new PoE league. Though I'm also considering skipping this league, with SMM coming out a couple weeks later. And Fire Emblem a few weeks after.

The framerate for PoE on my Xbox One X is pretty rough.

That's disappointing to hear. I haven't played on the consoles yet. I have been holding out hope for it heading to Switch down the line, but that doens't bode well.

That said, Synthesis is a mess technically, so hopefully it will improve with next league. Still, I didn't have performance issues until running content more like 100+ hrs in.

I searched the wiki but can't find it out, what am I supposed to be doing in those memories?

As quickly as possible (really just to avoid the decay), you want to find all of the "exit" points. There are two-to-four of them: upper-left, upper-right, LL, and LR. I don't recall how, but I believe you know how many you're looking for when the memory starts? You don't need to worry about picking anything up - it all will drop for you when you leave the memory.

This will save that memory "node" for you to use in synthesis, which chains together multiple memories to get to special nodes with more loot or bosses.

TBH, a ton of people skipped the memories. It's the Synthesis league mechanic, and it was pretty weak compared to the past several. I tried hard to get into it, but eventually gave up. I still appreciated the league (played 150+ hrs) because of the changes to magic and new skills, but it's so rough to compare to Delve. You'll discover Delve when you get to Act 5, I believe, and you won't look back.

Breach is also excellent. The Beastiary mechanic has been refined several times and is also great now. Several others are well integrated that I don't know the names of. Maybe Synthesis gets there someday.

ETA: Oh, quick tip. When you enter a memory, if you wait 2-3 seconds you'll see where the decay is. You generally want to run away from the decay - it basically points you where to go. It's a useful trick if you are constantly getting stuck and eaten-up by the decay. Nothing to force yourself into if you aren't having issues, though.

Played PoE for about 4 hours last night, had a lot of fun even if I really don't know what to do a lot of the time. No idea what to do with all of the loot, do I pick it all up and sell it? Hold onto it? I'm a Witch so I have two wands right now with spells and support gems but I've come across a lot of weapons that it feels like I'll never use. I normally pick up the good ones and either sell them or keep them in my stash. I guess that's the point of these 11 days, just mess around and try stuff out.

For sure - experiment and see what feels right for you. I think it depends upon play style.

At the beginning of a league (or just starting out, for you), most players will pick up more than they would late in the league - they need to build-up their currency. That said, random loot won't net you much profit in the long-run. One of the things you might have picked up from the Engineering Eternity video series is that there are 'vendor recipes'. I'd focus on these for making currency:

Three-socket+ RGB (one socket of each color): Sells for a chromatic.
Quality gems: Sell gems totalling 40% quality for a gemcutters prism (e.g. 79% total = 1 GCP; 80% = 2 GCP, so make sure you sell as close to 40% as possible).
Quality flasks: Same as above, but sells for glassblower's bobble.
Six socket anything: Sells for 7x jeweller's.

My personal suggestion is to, as much as possible, just bank your currency. You'll have a better idea of what to do with it when you get to end game. Spending some chromatic here and there to get the colors you need to equip a great leveling item is fine, but you're otherwise going to want to keep stuff. Don't use jeweller's before end game. Ever. Reforging links usually costs a ton, so you want to be sure you do it on items you will use for a significant amount of time.

All this said, if you don't mind running back to town to sell stuff often, you can absolutely pick up tons of loot and sell it for some nice leveling profit. It's not seen as being time efficient, but all that really matters is if you mind it or not. You're not competing with anyone :)

If you're interested in some items or currency, LMK and I can check my stash later (assuming you're playing in Synethesis softcore league). But just an offer - totally get it if you want to just play along and find stuff yourself.

I don’t think I even picked a league to start? I just choose my character and away I went.

Console port will be (hopefully) later this year. They're trying to avoid some of the mistakes Diablo made, I guess. There is a brief article about it here:

Never thought I'd say this about a fighting game but I'm really enjoying Injustice 2 a lot. The XBone is the living room console so I can't play on it for long extended periods but that's what makes it perfect for a fighting game.

The softcore version of the current league should be the default when you create a current characters, so we're probably in the same world.

I have a tabula rasa (can take you into end game) and a lifesprig wand (good for leveling) you can have if you'd like. Anytime in the next 10 days :) Everything transfers to standard after that.

Are most builds viable, or should you be using Grim Tools to try and min-max as you would in PoE? With as laid back as GD is compared to PoE, I just jumped in and have been winging it. It seems super easy and cheap to undo your points, as well, so it felt low risk. But now as I near level 30 I am wondering if I'm going to end up screwing myself over down the line.

Most builds are viable but there are clear cut best dps builds. Necro/Occultist was the best until chaos/pet dmg was nerfed. Ritualist, Conjurer and Dervish are powerful and mostly fun, Dervish is pretty annoying IMO. When it comes down to it, just play whatever you have fun with because playstyle & efficiency seem to be far more important than build.

It must be that kind of week when it comes to news. According to PlayStation Lifestyle, an anonymous source revealed to them that Gearbox is planning to release more Borderlands 2 DLC during this year’s E3 to bridge the gap between the end of Borderlands 2 and the beginning of the upcoming follow-up in Borderlands 3.

Called “Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary”, the rumoured Borderlands 2 expansion will “allow players to get in one last hurrah, and sate the thirst for Borderlands that you might be feeling for the next few months.” No word exactly on what platforms the DLC will be coming to, but it’s assumed that PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC will be a given.

Borderlands 3 will be released for PS4, Xbox One and PC September 13.

Now this would rule.

Steam's cloud save **** me over. I got a new laptop (more on that another time - still putting it through the trials), and played Grim Dawn on it this weekend.

Well cloud save loaded up my save file from my desktop just fine. However, when I went back to my desktop yesterday, it was showing my old save file. Okay, well I went back to my laptop, pulled up the character, played for a couple minutes, and exited again to try and force sync. Went to my desktop, still no dice. Did some googling, pulled it up on my laptop again, and now suddenly cloud save is syncing the old saves from my desktop. And I can't get my new saves back.

I'm sure that's hard to follow, so long-story-short is that cloud sync didn't work correctly and re-verted my save; I lost 10-15 hours of play time. UGH UGH UGH UGH UGH.
