Well spoken guy. I think I like him over Rui. Higher ceiling and I think his floor is a Capela type. This guy looks like he can impact both ends of the floor more than Rui. Or more defense, for sure. I think he could board and lob dunk on O fo sho. Rui looks a little stiff.

I guess the big thing that gives me pause about Kabengele is if he'd be used to his full potential here playing next to Towns. I think he'd thrive as a small-ball center. A lot of Ibaka comps, who quickly found better opportunities at C over PF.

I don't recall many Defensive players entering the draft with the defensive abilities of Clarke. MK isn't on that level.

Not picking on what you see in Clarke because he was a great college player and we all see something different in every player. Just the tale of the tape.

Kab’s standing reach is 7.5 inches higher.
He outweighs Clarke by 49 pounds (I’m still not sure of Clarke’s position) The Wolves are often bullied in the paint
Like Clarke, tested very well athletically
Kab shot 10% better from three and FT (and his jump shot isn’t broken)
A year younger
Played very well in the best basketball conference
ACC Sixth Man of the Year - finishing top 10 in boards and blocks
Floor may not be at Clarke’s level, but ceiling appears higher, possibly much higher
Plus I believe Mutombo is his uncle!

I’m in the “swing for the fences” mode with the Wolves. Not saying it’s right, just desperate for a winner at Target Center.

I think everybody's ceiling for Clarke is way lower than it could be. He can swing from SF to PF and I bet the three point shot becomes respectable. IMO Clarke is going to be a terror defensively and offensively.

My gut is telling me Hachimura or Doumboya..I feel like Rui is going to be a two way force in a few years. His work ethic seems crazy based on his body transformation, his ability to use either hand with ease and the fact that he picked up basketball almost at a teenage age tells me that he is dedicated to be a beast

You can never go wrong with a high motor, high energy guy.

Didn't we give Rui a promise ring that we would be together forever and ever? I don't get that whole "promise" thing, just seems so bizarre. So if we break our promise then our name is mud from here on out?

I think that was a rumor..media guys were speculating it was us for some reason with no proof, they just said it was the "buzz from the combine"

I'd feel better about Kabengele if he could/would pass.

It's was an educated guess, nothing more. Rui pulls out of the combine, he might have a promise. Who's the earliest team that would look at a guy like him? Minnesota, seems like a good fit with Towns and all that. Ergo, Wolves gave him a promise.

Same as the Garland/White stuff. The fact Rui had a pro-day (that we went to) should put to rest any "promise" BS...though we still could take him.

The speculation of a Rui promise was the result of him pulling out of the combine. Not sure why it was assumed to be the wolves.

Rui has held a pro day since which wouldnt make sense if he had a promise. More likely his agent just wants to control the workouts. He did something similiar when Sabonis came out.

One of the things that has been brought up from time to time is that we need to take a swing on star potential. However, sometimes it's important to consider the fact that someone more individually talented can actually make a team worse than someone who maybe has less talent but can fit into a team concept.

I think I'm coming back around to Brandon Clarke. He checks a lot of boxes. I understand the length and weight concerns, but I also think those concerns would be mitigated by playing next to Covington (7'1.75" wingspan) and Bates-Diop (7'3.25" wingspan).

You can get those team concept guys in free agency.
This (and probably next year) hopefully will be the last times the wolves are in the lottery for a while so hope we get two stars to team up with KAT to win it all in 5 years.

If only we could've seen Clarke play against some average competition this season instead of these scrubs....

With them little bitty T-rex arms he'll probably fall to the Raptors at pick #30, he he.

like every year, I haven't follow college ball and only watched some scouting videos and reports, but of course that doesn't stop me from adding my 2 cents.

A franchise in our position must pick the player with the highest upside. This shouldn't even be a debate.
Only very few teams can afford to draft a complementary piece, and that's (a) teams that have capspace and are a FA destination, (b) have assets to trade, (c) are already good or very good.

We are non of these. Teams in our position can only (!) increase their talent level through the draft. and you need to be ready to take risks to achieve that. While big markets and good teams can add a second star in free agency, we can (if lucky) get a Taj Gibson or a bench scorer and still need to overpay. This of course can change, but we're not there yet. Not even close.
So we need to trust in scouting, player development and yes...luck.
This can of course fail, but I'd be so mad if our FO settles for a 'safe' pick instead of one that could potentially really make a difference.

That said, I don't know which players fit this profile. I liked what I saw from Hachimura, can't teach work ethic and he has good handles for his size, and is a great athlete. This traits could make him a worthy choice. But like I said. I haven't watch a single college so I'm not really familiar with these players we could pick, but the overall strategy should be without a doubt the highest upside.

Typically we can't. And if we can it will definitely be an overpay.

I think we should draft a high motor high IQ player. For me those are the traits that show whether a player will contribute.

Sure but in that same game Hachimura had 20 pts, 7 Reb, 5 assists and 3 blocks and was the biggest reason the Zags won the game down the stretch making play after play.

I'm bored with the swing for the fences draft the highest upside blah, blah, blah. Either you are a player or you aren't. Draft the best basketball player and you will get the highest upside.

If this is about my comment let me help. I think the best basketball players are the ones most likely to have the highest upside. Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, Culver, Hunter, Barrett, Garland and Brandon Clarke are the best basketball players and I think their upside is better than Doumbouya, Kevin Porter Jr, Nassir Little etc....
