Hawks Could Again Use Cap Space In Trades To Acquire Additional Assets

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jun 4, 2019 5:47 pm

The Atlanta Hawks could have interest in taking on bad contracts in exchange for other assets again this offseason, according to sources.

The Hawks took on the contracts of Carmelo Anthony and Jeremy Lin last offseason.

Atlanta is building around the young core of Trae Young, John Collins and Kevin Huerter. There have also been some reports that the Hawks intend to pursue max level free agents with their cap space.

I would just keep building through the draft. They could inquire with Portland about taking on Evan Turner or Oklahoma City about taking on Andre Roberson for #25 or #21 respectively for #42 or #35 respectively.

ie. Turner + #25 for #42
ie. Roberson + #21 for #35

I believe it is still not the summer when we have to pull the trigger.
We could take a bad contract or a big bad contract and a small one provided they come with some positive additions: picks.
If we do that, we could have nice picks in 2-3 years, when supposedly our level of competition will be much higher and our own picks will be in the 20s, hopefuly.

But if a really good FA wants to come here this summer, for whatever the reason (he likes bold people, ha, ha... excuse me), we should get him. I mean, not a Tobias Harris who is going to come here to shoot 30 times and not get involved with the children (excuse me, our young players...), but someone like Vince Carter with 10 years less (may be that is not enough... ;-) ) that can offer current results and advice.

Thats actually not a bad idea, if the Hawks have someone specific in mind. Mind you, thats $16m to move 3 spots

Thunder will be desperate no pick swaps just take their pick and thats it.. The cavs have the magic JR contract though so if I am thunder I am dealing with them..
