James Dolan Never Vetoed Knicks' Trade For Kyle Lowry In 2014

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jun 7, 2019 1:45 pm

The New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors were close to a trade during the 13-14 season of Kyle Lowry in the final season of his contract for Raymond Felton, Iman Shumpert and a future first round pick.

Lowry wanted the trade while Carmelo Anthony lobbied the Knicks to make the deal.

The Raptors were ready to schedule the trade call, but the Knicks had second thoughts on the deal when Shumpert started playing well. Shumpert had torn an ACL 18 months prior and the Knicks thought he was turning a corner.

The conventional wisdom had been that James Dolan vetoed the trade after previously dealing with Masai Ujiri on the Andrea Bargnani trade. But Knicks insiders insist that narrative has always been incorrect and that they never took the deal to Dolan for approval. The Knicks' background work found Lowry could be difficult to manage.

thx captain obvious .. was really referring to the memphis scenario where knicks media (jon Rothstein in particular)were screaming at the team to deal for lowry (who was being given away)

and maybe you don't remember, but his name was in talks as a potential pick for the knicks as isiah liked his scrappiness/hustle.. he was probably the only name brought up consistently as a potential knick pick..

but lots of talent fell through the cracks that draft (rondo, millsap)

edit: but like i said, he is super fortunate he never became a knick

Well somebody is lying, and it’s easier for Dolan to blame the former management now that they’re gone.

Funny how it took almost 6 years for this to come out.

Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

Windy scraping the bottom of the barrel for a story here.

This is the equivalent of Jeffrey Dahmer feeling the need to clarify that one of his victims actually suffered a heart attack before he even laid a finger on 'em.

Nobody cares, this is old news, and it doesn't change any of the other stuff he is responsible for.

I’m waiting for Hue Jackson to explain how the Browns wanted to deal for Lowry but other execs nixed the deal.

Dolan trying to save face again before free agency and doing it the only way he knows how, through everyone else under the bus. What a joke of a person, I wish Charles Oakley hasn’t been held back.

Kevin Knox.

But it’s kind of pointless information; who knows where the Knicks would have landed had the trade or any other plausible trade went through.

Raptors had a roster that didn't work well together then. They were 6-12 that season before trading Gay for a bunch of bench warmers which turned out a brilliant trade.
