Tony Parker Retires From NBA

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jun 10, 2019 4:09 pm

Tony Parker has announced his decision to retire from the NBA after 18 seasons.

Parker spent last season with the Charlotte Hornets after spending his entire career previously with the San Antonio Spurs.

“I’m going to retire,” Parker told The Undefeated. “I decided that I’m not going to play basketball anymore.”

Parker had previously hoped to play 20 seasons. Parker was a six-time All-Star.

Parker told The Undefeated he feels physically good enough to play two more seasons but in his mind he believes it is time to walk away.

“A lot of different stuff ultimately led me to this decision,” Parker said. “But, at the end of the day, I was like, if I can’t be Tony Parker anymore and I can’t play for a championship, I don’t want to play basketball anymore.”

He certainly could still ball. One of the best ever at controlling the tempo and reading the defense.

I don't think he planned to retire on the day Kawhi starts a new era in Toronto and wins a championship. I think Mark Spears/Undefeated ESPN buried this story for like a week with the intent of driving web traffic when it got released on Kawhi's special day. Parker even says in the article he told Duncan and Ginoblli a week ago. This nba finals has been a ratings nightmare in the US outside California and Nevada apparently for ABC/ESPN. The Canadian ratings from coast to coast are historic but that is the gain of the Canadian broadcasters who cover the games for the Canadian networks and bought the simsub rights to air ABC's broadcast in Canada.

Good for Tony! He was one of the most enjoyable players to watch during his hayday. A true pro and a great player, a big reason for the NBA titles the Spurs won.

Would have been a perfect story book ending if he retired a Spur had the Spurs paid him the couple of $m he was seeking. Like Duncan and Manu.

Now he retires after 1 year in Charlotte for a small amount.

Now that Tony has retired can anyone shed more light on his departure from San Antonio? Like, we know he was one the voices who caused the tension between Kahwi and the team. Was Tony sent packing in order to appease/ apologize for his comments?

Great career and great memories. He really changed the way point guards play with his floaters and the euro step, etc. He really played with a certain intensity and he wasn't afraid to play in the paint as guard was always impressive. Another Spurs Hall of Famer coming through!!!

Unguradable at his peak. Might have cost the Mavs a court of championships.
