Is he an unrestricted free agent?

restricted by Brooklyn but if they sign Kyrie and another FA, they have to renounce his rights. They may anyways since DLO indicated that he didn't want Kyrie.

Yeah - I did the math in the last thread - they are about $6m short of being able to sign two 30%-FAs and keep DLO - even if they can trade Dinwiddie and Harris for future 2nd round picks or cash or whatever. (And there's no further way of improving the situation.) I don't really see it, but maybe Kyrie and Harris see the advantage of being able to max DLO either to play with him or to trade him, and swallow the hit - it's about $14m each over the 4 years. idk. Seems really unlikely to me.

Hopefully Kyrie ruins another team like he did Boston. Has yet to prove he is a winning player without a top #1 next to him. Once KD went down the Kyrie signing with us died, and that’s fine. If we don’t sign KD then I guess it’s a ton of 1 year deals or creative trades.

Knicks want him contingent on KD signing here.

they could also think they could get close to the same production from Trier or DSJr. at a cheaper price, and be able to spend money at another position or positions.

Could he work next to RJ, Knox, and Mitch?

You don't worry about Knox lol Knox is likely to be traded at some point no matter what. If he can't ever play the 4, he's useless.

C: Mitch - 21
PF:
SF: RJ - 19
SG: Beal - 26
PG: DLO -23

I posted this earlier but if you build around these 4, the Knicks will have just enough for a 30% max FA next year or 2021. I did the calculations and posted them. It's legit.

That means that we could offer DSJ, Knox and a 1st for Beal and be good/young enough to attract FAs finally. Upcoming FA's include AD, Giannis, Towns, Turner, etc.

ehh he's 26. If he were 24 or 23, I'd be all for it. I like Brogdon. I just like Beal more as a top 3 option. With DLO, RJ and Beal, we have 3 guys who could step up into the #2 or #3 role. We'd still need a star and would have 2020 and 2021 to do so in free agency.

Frank might be gone. We don’t know what progression Knox & DSJr will have. We don’t know who we drafting next year.

Dotson and Trier expire at the end of the coming season. Mitch, Frank and DSJ in summer 2021.

Mitch can’t hit FA until 2022. Why do people keep saying 2021?

My bad. Apologies. Christ that's a terribly negotiated contract. No wonder he's been through a fistful of managements.

I know the shift has now gone to Kyrie but one last note on why it would make sense to get KD even with his injury:

We can’t let the cap go to waste.

Signing KD and hoping he returns to what he was while also pursuing Kawhi makes a lot more sense than just rolling back the money. Take the risk and live with it while also growing the youngins.

What exactly is the big deal?

Even if KD isn’t who he is...so what?

We’re still gonna have the young pups on the team, could still go after a player in 2020 if we choose to.

I’ll take DLo. DLo/RJ backcourt would be fun.
Brooklyn Nets
Damian Lillard - Rajon Rondo - Trey Burke
Victor Oladipo - Wes Matthews - Javon Carter
Caris LeVert - Derrick Jones Jr. - Glenn Robinson III
Andre Igoudala - Killian Tillie - Trey Lyles
Joel Embiid - Taj Gibson - Kevon Looney

You're comparing them to guys 28 to 34 year old. They are elite for their age group. They will eventually become elite overall as the older guys fall off. Get ahead of the curve.

If Nets sign Kyrie, they can re-up DLo right?

If they sign Kyrie and Butler or Kyrie and Harris, then Russel is a FA?

I honestly would sign him to a max. I think his contract projects better than Kyries for the next 4 years and moving forward.

I even did some math and if you trade DSJr, Knox, 2020 Knicks 1st and the 2021 Mavs 1st for Beal, then we'd have a max slot open for Giannis/Towns/etc in 2021.

I'd love to see a dynamic backcourt for once and Russel/Beal would be entertaining as **** on offense with Mitch swatting the sun on D.
