why is that? seems a better healing injury. most medical reports say harder to fully recover from ACL than Achilles
The ACL is a ligament, meaning a tough, relatively inelastic connective tissue band that joins one bone to another. A tendon is a tough relatively inelastic connective tissue band that joins a bone to a muscle. Now, in your question, if we clarify how badly a ligament/tendon is ruptured/torn, the first thing to consider is how badly, ie partially, or completely. So, of you will forgive me, I will restate the question: Which is more serious, and or more difficult to heal? Well, if you destroy the continuity of your ACL, then you still have 3 other ligaments to help hold it semi-stable (bone to bone, remember?). So you can still walk, albeit painfully and not well. Now, of you destroy the continuity of your Achilles tendon, you can no longer push your foot down (as you do when you “point your toes”). This means you cannot walk, because you can't push off the ground with that foot. If both Achilles we're completely severed, you couldn't even stand up.
According to a 2013 medical study that identified 18 players who suffered major Achilles injuries over a 23-year span (1988-2011), seven players never returned to the league. Players who returned missed an average of 56 games and saw their PER decline in their first and second seasons back. A 2015 CBS Sports article found that among 14 players who returned from Achilles injuries since 1992, they averaged fewer minutes while both their field goal and three-point percentages dropped, on average. There are very few complete success stories.
Trackrecord of achilly injury is terrible, especially in nba. In almost all cases but Dominique, it was career killer ( in some cases instant, in some cases simply player was not what he used to be, Kobe'a achilliy kind a retired him, not officially, but it did ).
