Massive, massive miscalculation here. I thought he'd give up Tatum if it meant AD. Completely surprised me.

And rightfully so. Giving up Tatum for AD when he said he won’t commit to you aka one year would be nuts.

This isn't really all that crazy, and no, it is not comparable to the Raptors situation with Leonard.

Anthony Davis said flat out he will not re-sign with the Celtics. Kyrie Irving is a free agent, and there is a very high chance he is leaving.

It doesn't really make sense to get Davis - who would he play with if Irving left? (again high chance)

Well done.

What would trading for George or Butler have done? Butler could easily walk still lol.

At some point you gotta be willing to take a risk don't you think?
Look at Toronto now with the guy you could have traded for

Ainge can't close the deal. No point in closing a bunch of small deals where you win if you choke when it starts to get serious.

Amidst a bunch of bad moves (mainly unmade moves) this was the right call.

I am a Tatum fan. He will improve with Kyrie out. It’s not fair to call him Battier clone. Tatum has better handles and has a nice flow to his game.

Boston is not happy with losing out on AD; especially to the Lakers. Lakers overpaid but they at least had the huevos to do it.

If Kyrie is walking and AD is a one year rental, would you give up Tatum (and probably Brown and picks) for Davis to play with Al Horford and Gordon Hayward for a year before Rich Paul and Lebron get him over to LA or New York?

Celtics just weren't confident enough that Davis would re-sign with the C's. This also gives further stock to Kyrie leaving if they didn't wanna take this swing.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

Well at least Tatum will get to be a #1 option this year for his team. After his playoff performance his rookie season, he looked like he was on the fast track to being a perennial All Star. Having to inject 2 key players back into the rotation last season (Irving and Hayward,) definitely seemed to slow his progression.

I don't blame them for not including Tatum since it would've more than likely been a 1 year rental. Tatum and Brown should flourish this upcoming season with the extra opportunities that'll be available once Kyrie officially bolts.

Remember when everyone was saying how Ainge was running the table in terms of executive ability and the Nets and Cavs trades?

Yeah the guy’s value as an exec has plummeted. I still would have put Tatum up. I think Brown and Tatum have equal value going forward and if the Celts lose Kyrie they needed that superstar next season. Now they’re going to be a middling team in the east that gets eliminated in the 1st round and there’s no real blue sky on the horizon either.

Same s*** different day with this front office.

Ainge still thinks he can fleece everyone in a trade. Billy King is not around anymore.

Ainge has really screwed up IMO. If he’s not willing to take a risk on Kawhi and AD then he isn’t doing his job properly.

With Kyrie going the Celts will be built around Tatum, Brown and Hayward next year. I’m not a Tatum hater but I can’t see him being a top 10 level guy in the league. Celts are in trouble next year. I think the Pacers will move above them in the pecking order.

Ainge is a worse snake than Kevin Durant. I guarantee the second he said Tatum was off the table the Pels hung up and made the deal with the Lakers. David Griffin isn't going to be anyone's fool.

He's taking a risk but it is on the Celtics youth development. Obviously there is serious questions about that because it wasn't Ainge's plan A, and probably not a plan b but it is a risk Ainge is taking here.

The league's landscape is very fluid right now, and the Celtics have to ressess after a terrible season following ECF appreances, and a year ago the Celtics situation shows you how quickly things can change.

Ingram is only 6 months older and was averaging 27/6/6 in the last ~14 games before his injury. He's going to be better than the overrated Tatum.
