Trade for Harden.
The best thing the Rockets can do is get that treasure chest of assets from Ainge at this point.

Waiting for "leaks" to report that Ainge offered 32 picks, Tatum and 7 vested virgins for AD. These are the usual type of things to come out painting Ainge in an amazing light after things go tits up.
Props to Turbo_Zone for the sig.

...yea. AD wasn't re signing, so the assets needed to trade for him would have been a bad idea to give up. What do you want Ainge to do? I'm happy letting the young guys develop if this is the road taken.

Do you think that Kawhi, George, Butler and Davis are all top-5 players?

I hate that people say Celtics f-ed up. Really? Hayward is done, how is that their fault? Also Kyrie is never going to take role players to a championship by himself so It's for the best if he leaves. They need an all-around superstar.

Hey the Knicks still suck lol.
You're going to need thicker skin to live down here with us.
I’ll be ok I think. I still think we are a top 4 seed. Time to pass the keys to the young guys and make a few smart moves.

Butler isn't. Point was, Ainge and Celtics fans kept bragging they were going to get one of these studs, franchise studs, and each time Ainge got scared to take a chance the line was it was b/c he had grander plans which was AD.
Personally, as of this point in time, yes Kawhi, PG and AD are in or close to top 5. Butler is top 25 for sure. I personally am down on AD more than PG and Kawhi.

Re: Where do the Celtics go from here?
Ainge did not anticipate that it was LA or bust for AD. But he should have. AD hired Klutch because he wanted to be a Laker and bought a huge mansion in LA. AD made it crystal clear to every team not named the Lakers that he was a rental-- and he did so at the time of his initial trade demand. So now he's a Laker, and we'll see how it all plays out. Dwight Howard was a Laker too.

Re: Where do the Celtics go from here?
Age next year with last 2yrs stats:
C Horford (33): 30.4mpg, 18.6usg%, 59.0ts%, 18.8per, .172ws48, 4.4bpm, 4.2rpm
F Tatum (21): 30.8mpg, 20.8usg%, 56.5ts%, 15.2per, .118ws48, 0.1bpm, 2.2rpm
F Hayward (29): 25.6mpg, 19.0usg%, 57.5ts%, 15.6per, .126ws48, 0.5bpm, 0.4rpm
G Brown (23): 28.2mpg, 21.7usg%, 55.4ts%, 13.6per, .089ws48, -1.1bpm, 0.1rpm
G Smart (25): 28.5mpg, 16.7usg%, 52.5ts%, 12.1per, .091ws48, 0.9bpm, 1.7rpm
C Baynes (33): 17.5mpg, 16.3usg%, 52.4ts%, 12.8per, .112ws48, -1.0bpm, 0.6rpm
F Theis (27): 14.3mpg, 15.6usg%, 62.1ts%, 16.6per, .183ws48, 2.5bpm, 1.0rpm
G Rozier (25): 24.3mpg, 19.6usg%, 51.1ts%, 14.1per, .109ws48, 0.6bpm, 0.1rpm
One standout player in Horford (but not a 1st option, and getting a bit old) followed by a lot of mediocrity...but no crazy holes either.
They'll really need Tatum and Brown to take a leap forward to make any real noise though.

It's also possible that Anthony Davis said that he wouldn't sign an extension with the Celtics (which was reported..but who knows the truth to it).

The thing I don't get is what the strategy was re: timelines, as Horford/Irving/Hayward were on a very different timeline than Brown/Tatum/Rozier.

The team they put out next year was in the EC finals 2 years ago
No where even remotely close to Knicks level incompetence
The East is considerably better now than it was 2 years ago, or did you miss the Bucks beating them in 5 after going to 7 the year before?
Oh, they are pretty close to Knicks level incompetence, considering they didn't trade for PG13, Butler, Leonard because they wanted to keep assets for AD, who they didn't get. All while losing Kyrie.....welcome to the bottom of the Atlantic.
The Knicks are still in the NBA

Yes, because the myth that they did anything to screw him over is complete BS and just perpetuated by Celtics haters that infest this forum. You conveniently forget that he was traded to a Cavs team with LeBron James on it. He wasn’t dumped on some bottom feeding loser team.

But the comment from AD’s dad (not that I’m claiming if it’s true) about how they treated him doesn’t really help their PR.

Re: Where do the Celtics go from here?
Also, the current Celtics have a major weakness with defensive rebounding. As they stand, Horford will play center and one of Tatum/Hayward/Brown will play PF. That will be one of the weakest frontcourt and get destroyed on the glass by every team that they play. Alternatively, you need to bench one of Tatum/Hayward/Brown and have a proper PF in the starting lineup. The problem is that none of those three would be happy not starting. I have yet to hear Celtics fans comment on this potential issue.

He was on the rise, might have been an all-star for a couple of years, especially in the East. He's supposed to be the 2nd option behind Kyrie so let's see which one is worse:
Kyrie Irving as 1st option.
Gordon Hayward as a 2nd option.
I think Hayward 2nd > Kyrie 1st.
Now PG and Butler. We can make an argument that PG is able to go far as the best player on his team. But then we get even bigger locker room problems because Kyrie left the Cavs to be "The Man" on his own team. I don't really remember the free agency and don't know if PG was even considering Celtics, but overall you're right, PG would be big if it was possible.
As for Butler - I don't think he's that much better than Hayward. He showed up in some big games, but Hayward could have done it as well, we just don't know. This comes down to an opinion and your evaluation of these 2 players.
