Re: Dennis Smith, Jr. Thread
I am pulling for DSJ, but not sure he puts it together this year. If he doesn't, he's a bust. Right now, the jury is still out. If RJ goes at #2 - which I think is becoming more and more realistic - I think we take Morant and trade DSJ, even if it is only for the 33rd and 34th picks from Philly (which I think would be a win-win). Morant starts, we see where Frank goes, and we look to young PFs. Give Morant, Frank and Kadeem time at PG; Dotson, Trier and Frank most of the time at 2G; Knox, Dotson and Frank at 3, X, Vonleh and Knox at 4, and Robinson and whats mis name at Center. If we strike out on big names, we re-sign Jordan and Hezonja to 1 year contracts.

Anyone that doesn’t see a player in DSJ, Please explain to me what you don’t like? I’m at a loss for the people that want to get rid of him. He’s not even 22 yet.
I know the passing isn’t there yet, but the raw ability alone is tantalizing. Even if we draft Morant tonight I’ll be pissed if we dealt him for a 2nd or 2

I don't want them trading any of our young lottery talent, including Frank and DSJ.
In Frank's case, he was evaluated to be a "project" type of player yet everyone wants to dump him for next to nothing after 2 seasons with the team. A project player usually takes at least 4 or 5 seasons, especially when they're supposed to be a lead guard which is a difficult position to master in the league.
Anyway, dumping any of these kids now is literally trading them away with their value at an all time low. Mitchell is probably the only player on our young core that holds good value in the league.
I like Smith Jr, he has his flaws but I see a guy with a good amount of potential. I'd still like to see him and Frank start in the backcourt together, they both have some dog in them and I actually believe they'd work very well together if one of them (preferably both) work on their perimeter game.
They're so young and it just seems foolish to dump them right now for next to nothing. Especially with the possibility of striking out in FA, we need to build up the value of our young guys and not dump them so soon after being drafted. I thought this coaching staff was supposed to be experts in developing young talent. The coaching staff needs to earn their paycheck.

Totally agree. I would keep all of them. I’d only trade Frank if we were getting a mid 1st or a solid youngish player at a position of need (PF). I’d love to see them get some burn together too.
The development last season was definitely disappointing, but I also think it was a lack of Vets that hurt that too. Hence why I think if we were to get shut out by KD/Kawahi, I’m all for signing a few guys to help the youngins (Bev, Jordan, Carroll etc), along with a young FA or 2

my only concerns with DSJ are shooting and shot selection. i think he is a dog and unselfish, but maybe not the brightest player? his decision making leaves something to be desired at times. but as a young player with his style and abilities, i'm not too worried about that part. his talents are special. but if he can't shoot jumpers OR free throws, his impact potential is limited.
i respect his effort on the defensive end since he's been in a knick uniform. i like the kid. he's won me over quite a bit since becoming a knick. (i hated pretty much his entire dallas run.) but when i see shooting like his, i'm concerned that's not gonna magically sort itself out.

He's not great at anything besides jumping; he has nothing to hang his hat on. He's an athlete.
- He's a poor PnR playmaker; 38th percentile, I believe (my biggest concern for him). Good defenses shut down his PnR game.
- We all know he can't shoot.
- His passing and vision are average.
- His defense is average at best.
- His size is average.
- He's not an exceptionally smart player.
He's not selfish nor is he lazy but I don't think he has a good feel for the game or BBIQ. When you roll together a whole bunch of average traits/attributes, you get an average player. He screams "backup PG" to me, or " below average starter".
There's a reason the Mavs couldn't find anyone willing to give up a late first for DSJ prior to the KP trade.
I'm not itching to get rid of him but I don't have high expectations for him; same way I feel about Frank. We can keep him as a piece but I wouldn't hesitate to move him if I found a deal I liked. Shooting can improve but I don't expect his passing, vision, defense, etc. to get much better.

stop cherry picking and wasting keystrokes, dsj is better than morant/garland combined.

knicks can't think very highly of DSJ. They are interested in signing Kyrie/Kemba and brought in Morant/Garland/White for workouts...

dsj sucks with scoring on the perimeter and he's can really run an offense, but what he does well is cut to the basket off the ball because he loves dunking and he attacks the rim nonstop.
have barrett be the point forward with dsj as the secondary ball handler, and on offense run the same plays the bucks do with bledsoe.

Re: Dennis Smith, Jr. Thread
he's not good. at least not elite. he can dunk tho. trade him. let someone else love the sexiness of a dunk. the graph above comparing Wall to DSJ says Wall is better at nearly every single aspect of basketball while being a ridiculously better point guard than DSJ. its a dumb argument if it's trying to help DSJ out.
hey look one guy is better than me and all scoring aspects while being an elite playmaker(you know a guy who gets assists, assists meaning points went on the board, you know in a game with highest point win)...ain't I good? no, no you're not good and the team that falls for it is dumb.
come on he's a guard shooting below 70% from the line. you know how rare that guy is elite? you are going to be disappointed hoping he's Baron Davis just going t hurt us.
