Boy, this franchise is an absolute embarrassment.
Starting 5 (again) will have Cody, Marvin, MKG and Batum.

I think Jalen is my favorite pick. Love the upside. We need to get Jaden too.
I think Jalen is the best out of the 3 we drafted but I woulda much rather us drafted Obeisie. Jalen will have to bulk up. Hes way too skinny now.

Re: 2019 Draft Discussion
I was feeling decent about the draft, but this has me second guessing. Maybe this draft is really just that bad in general.
PJ and Mcdaniels are both 20 and PJ is coming off of an injury, but how do you draft a 23 year old senior if you think he needs to be in the G-League?

Re: 2019 Draft Discussion
I dont think thats a big deal, he is coming off an injury. let him take it easy and get his fitness back in the G-League before he comes to the big leagues.
Graham and Bacon both played in the G-League a lot too, and they were relative bright spots last season.

I think the ideal play might have been to trade 12 + 36 + something for 14 + 22 from Boston.
14 - Sekou Doumbouya
22 - Grant Williams
52 - Cody Martin or Jalen Mcdaniels

Re: 2019 Draft Discussion
I think overall we did average for our draft not good but not horrible. Jalen is our only HOPE here.
For the record guys Jalen McDaniels was not my "pick", My Picks were and still would be,
#12 - NAW
#36 - Obeisie
#52 - COOK
Check my "sig" lol.
With BJ Taylor being my "invite" to summer league. I have not been as high on Mcdaniels as I was the start of my scouting... So if he doesn't pan out or if he does pan out he was not my pick... WIth that being said, I do think he is the best out of the 3 we drafted but he would not have been my pick...

Re: 2019 Draft Discussion
If I were GM this would have been my Roster
Kemba, NAW, BJ Taylor (Summer Leage Invite)
Zhairre, Lamb
Bacon, Obeisie, Theo Pinson (woulda traded Monk for him)
YuTa, Frank
Cook, Biz
not this
Kemba, NAW, BJ Taylor (Summer Leage Invite)
Zhairre, Lamb
Bacon, Obeisie, Theo Pinson (woulda traded Monk for him)
YuTa, Frank, Mcdaniels
Zeller, Biz
So I'm not backing out of the Mcdaniels pick nore claiming it... But..... I do think he will be "better" than the other two picks or just as good as what we drafted this year.

Re: 2019 Draft Discussion
Guys I don't want to sound too negative but I think we are in bad hands as an organization with Kupchack. We picked at #12 a player coming off injury with not much more than a tough mentality. Those are usually what you look for out of players in the second round... First round/lottery you want potential stars or starters.
#36 we picked the worse of the 2 twins and the other which was better didn't get drafted.
#52 we picked the best player out of the 3 but not by much in Mcdaniels. He has had off the court issues. What I like about him is at least he can add muscle, and plays hard and is a good defender and rebounder. I think he will be the best of the 3 chosen.
Finally we picked 3 forwards. Pretty much selected 3 small forwards. Not sure I see what the goal was here. We also attempted to move up and give up on a guy who showed promise late last year in Miles and package just about all of our picks for the 4th pick. Thats the only thing I am happy about out of our picks because at least we got 3 chances to get it "decent" instead of trading up and getting one chance at decency because we probably would have chosen a wrong pick there as well..
I look forward to summer league. We have a chance to make up for it by inviting some good players to our summer league roster. There is a chance Obiesie can be one of them since he did workout for us. Also Wiiliam Mcdowell white to name another that worked out for us. I want to stay optimistic but can't see anything that makes sense about it.

I agree with this. We need to get away from the negative association with the G league, nothing wrong with guys spending some games there.

Are you serious right now?
Is this you:
UNCNYC wrote:In fact I am so impressed with Luka Samanic and Jalen Mcdaniels that I have narrowed our 12th pick down to them.
All off-season you've been talking about how great McDaniels is, ranking him above Zion and as the first or second best PF in the class. Now that we've drafted him, you're saying he's not much better than a guy you think should've gone undrafted and he's not a PF at all?
If you're going to hammer us with your draft opinions over and over, seems like you should at least stick with them.

Amen. So, I was drunk last night (not unusual) and went to bed thinking we drafted Cam Johnson. In my dreams, I had completely come to terms with it - was OK with it. Then I woke up. Let's just say that PJ was at the bottom of my list - can't get excited about his Carly Landryishness. + you have Schofield, Gafford and Bol at 36 and you pass? Jeesh. Yet another underwhelming draft. At least I can try and get excited by the porno producer we snagged at 52.

Re: 2019 Draft Discussion
Agree with some relative to the draft results. This draft by the Hornets has a theme song, but not sure of the title yet. Maybe “The Pretender” by Jackson Browne. With three picks we “started out so young and strong, only to surrender”. Surrender to what? Safety...dependability...the daily punch the clock picks you get from a team trying to dig out of a hole. These picks embraced workman-like skills from less than ideal employees for their roles. We even hired a potential felon . Made no trades which, thankfully, included not selling our 2nd rounders.
What would have been bold would be a trade back (as suggested for 14 & 22). Drafting Sekou would have been bold. A tad risky but upside potential higher perhaps than PJ. I like Washington as a fit here, but a safe bet by Mitch for sure. The others are athletes who have skills, always a good combination for being contributors over time. Expecting more from 2nd rounders is not smart, but who knows how any picks will play out.
Maybe Mitch will have more success making trades to shed some junk (Batum, etc.). If so we plug these guys into development and see what happens. As for the draft...just another day at the office for the Hornets.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: 2019 Draft Discussion
Teams that I think did really well are New Orleans, Spurs, Warriors with Poole, and I think Vanja Marinkovic who went LAST in the draft is my sleeper. I have been a fan of his for a while. I am gonna go on a limb and pick Vanja to be one of the better players taken in the draft. Two other picks I like are Poole by the Warriors and Deividas Sirvydis.
