Early bold prediction:
Hawks- 6th seed in the east in 2019-20. 44 wins.

If they're able to shore up their holes at the 1 & 5 spots with quality defenders, I can easily see them fighting for the last playoff spot. 39-42 wins.

Re: Hawks are a realistic playoff threat
I’ve got us for 35-40 wins. That depends on what we do with the overpriced vets we have and if we sign a couple more pieces. I’d like to see us sign Vince and Lin back as Lin was a good mentor to Trae and Vince would be a fantastic mentor to Cam.
My hard number prediction is 38 wins and the 8th seed in a weak eastern conference.

I think TS brings in a vet PG. I don't think he'll re-sign Dedmon as that would be 4 Cs. I think he's going to soft tank and we end up with another top 10 FRP to go with Nets teens pick.
32 wins with a baby roster developing and another strong draft

Re: Hawks are a realistic playoff threat
that would mean you're counting on Plumlee to play meaningful minutes, right? I don't see that happening. I can't see them depending on him for anything, or putting too much on a 2nd round rookie.tbhawksfan1 wrote:I think TS brings in a vet PG. I don't think he'll re-sign Dedmon as that would be 4 Cs. Re: Hawks are a realistic playoff threat
I admit I didn't like the NBA policy change at first, but effectively neutralizing the Division titles is proving to be a good thing.
The Dirty South Division outside of Atlanta is now about one (more) All-Star free-agent defection away from becoming a wasteland. And the Hawks would be hearing about it for months if they were leading it next season with some .500-ish record. The bellyaching from fans and writers for the 4th-place squads in the Atlantic and Central would be incessant.
Atlanta might have to emerge as a not-even-borderline playoff team next season, if only to save the entire division from becoming a laughingstock for the ages.

Re: Hawks are a realistic playoff threat
Very weak division, but MIA should be the PO rep. Hawks are just too young. Looks like TS has his eye on another BIG to finalize the roster. Adams may not make it, bringing in another PG.
TS's MO is to have some solid character vets. If he brings in two rotation vets, I can see mid 30s. As of today I'm thinking 28
Of course, nothing would make me happier than a Hawks soaring with the kids swooping to a PO seed. Won't cry over another nice development season with another nice lotto pick either

Re: Hawks are a realistic playoff threat
I don't have an issue with missing the playoffs again if that's what it takes to develop the talent. Next year FA aren't all that anyway and another shot at a top 4 lottery pick may be well worth it. Now the following season we need to be 4-7 seed in the weak East and make some noise in the playoffs if we want any chance of snagging a real FA
Commit to the process

Re: Hawks are a realistic playoff threat
So far with the additions of Jones, Parker, Fernando, Redd, Hunter, they need contributions from all to get 40+ wins. You need Hunter and Redd to at minimum, play at the level of Prince. Bruno has some qualities of both Len and Jones. Should eventually overtake Jones later in the season.
You need Jones to be able to rebound and defend at a high level to start. I think Parker will actually have a good year, on offense atleast. Len has to be a steady starter. He played relatively well last season starting..

that's exactly where I have them, 32-35 wins.
Slight improvement from last season which makes sense.

Rayford Young II -- Jan 2019“You can write this down and mark my words. They are going to be in playoff contention next year. If they add one more solid piece and everyone is healthy, I think just based on them being in the East, as well, I think they’re going to have a great shot. I don’t think there’s a huge gap from four to eight. As long as these guys keep getting better, Trae gets stronger, John keeps moving at the level where he’s moving to, Kevin Huerter keeps developing the way he is, they’re going to have a good shot.”

We finished the year strong. Chemistry will be wierd early on. I actually think Cam will have a better rookie season than Hunter.
I think we make the playoffs and one of these free agents will actually ball out.
I see us in the playoffs.

Not calling this a throwaway season, but I think Schlenk views this season as sink or swim from within. 20-21 is the season where expectations will start coming from the outside media, and obviously sky high from the city.
All the 2020 cap, and two more 1st rounders to make moves with. To get the tier one 2021 FAs to actually sit down and consider the team, you'lll want the young team to be ready made.

I see this as another 'Development over Wins' season. Winning along the way is just extra.
