Arsenal wrote:Hey, if the owners had an unlimited budget, then it would be great. However that's not how the real world works. There is always a budget the team has to work within, especially factoring in the dynamics of the luxury tax.

This team is likely to be over the tax line this year, and WAY over next year when Simmons' MAX extension kicks in. Then we'll see how harmless it is to the team that we're paying Butler + Harris a combined $10-15M/yr too much. In that 3rd year of going over the tax we'll be facing the dreaded repeater tax also.

Yes, there is a cap for the roster, but it doesn't take in consideration money made from the playoffs, the further you go the more money that is brought in to cover some of the tax they're paying. Also, you can always move a player if need be, all 4 possible max contracts will have a value to them in a trade unless a serious injury happens. If things don't go well for some reason next year, I'd expect Butler could be moved for a shorter term contract, like for instance Butler(4 years remaining) to a team that's still trying to contend, like CP3(2 years remaining). Harris being a stretch 4 and able to handle secondary ball-handling duties will probably make him a positive trade asset during his contract.

Got to also remember, the salary cap will continue to climb and with that, those last numbers won't be going against this year's cap, but the cap during those years, we may be talking about 130 million dollar caps by then.

I've been supremely confident that the Sixers will keep both all along. Ownership is pushing for it, Brand is confident, they sold off those picks for a reason. They expect to be over the LT and expect both to be back. However, if I have one concern it's that I just don't trust Joshua Harris. He never "felt" like a type to go over the luxury tax. He just looks like a penny pinching SOB to me. Sorry, but that's just the vibe he gives off.

So I started to wonder last night if Joshua Harris spoke publicly about going over the LT just to get out in front of the narrative, when all along his plan was to mandate Brand to offer each just short of the full max knowing they'd walk, so he can both save money and save face publicly. He can go "Hey, we offered both a ton of money, they just didn't take it! That's not on us!" so he can avoid criticism of being cheap, but also not have to spend money at the same time. He saves money for more helicopters and doesn't get eviscerated for being cheap. Win-win for Harris.

Just a concern I have, sorry, I just don't trust Harris. Ultimately I still think they sign both, but I'll never trust Harris. Get bad vibes from him.

I'm sure stuff will start leaking out Sunday all day, but officially at midnight things get crazy.

I feel like a really good first rounder doesn't satiate what we're currently looking for.

Well, all this talk about Butler to Houston has been happening with Butler in Brazil, I think today is his first day back in the states. I do wonder if Morey is leaking out this info to appease the owner who has mentioned in the past wanting to acquire Butler.

I wonder if teams look down on the Sixers because we’ve tanked for so many years and kinda look at us like a small market team and think they are entitled to have our players and we don’t deserve them so they just think they can come and take whatever they want, almost like a mega corporation buying up smaller stores.

We should leak a rumor that Morey wants to interview for the Sixers GM spot again.

Naw this is Morey ****. He was doing this with Lebron last year too. He thinks he can turn lead into gold.

good position to be in. can't lose either way in my opinion. i love butler's dawg captain mentorship on this team. but it is possible that butler is the better player while terrence ross is the better fit. some good extra picks along with the capspace to sign ross could be nice.

while a lot of folks have turned on elton bran, i am impressed and feel good about whatever we're about to do. picking up wilson chandler and extra picks, trading back and picking up mia21, drafting landry shamet, drafting shake milton, getting jimmy butler without picks, acquiring mike scott along with tobi and bobi, james ennis, trading up for matisse thybulle by giving up only isaiah canaan (i mean carsen edwards), drafting marial shayock, moved on from fultz who is still not playing ... and the only player i believe was accessible and is better than tobias harris was otto porter. while i reserve the right to bitch about mitchell robinson and daniel gafford if they become something, eb has done much more positive than negative in my opinion.

feels good to have faith again.

It is very difficult imo to find an acceptable sign and trade because both teams have the same aim, to contend. To make such a trade worthwhile for the Sixers they need something that helps them more than Butler to win the title. But it defeats the purpose for Houston to do something like that, they are trying to win themselves.

Exceptions here are if the Sixers dont value Butler very highly, or at least much less than Houston or if there is a third team that can sign (or sign and trade) Butler and he doesnt care about the 5th year.

We’d have to have something lined up in free agency. Picks + one of DLO or Brogdan might not be a bad alternative.

Inspired by Morey, I'm going to try and sell Katheryn Winnick that the best thing for her is to marry me and quit acting.
