Feel bad for the team that overpays Brogdon. Classic role player overpay. If you dont already have 2-3 studs preferably on cost controlled contracts Brogdon isn't worth it at all..

Randle and Mitch as 4&5 would be insane. Adding RJ, Randle, and seeing who develops...3toheadmelo wrote:Randle always been a beast.. been saying we should go after him since last year
That team can surprise a lot.

Especially when they kept this years cap low because they thought they were getting in on 2019 free agency.
Assuming you knew that we weren't going to get any of the top tier free agents this summer, what, if anything, would you do differently if you were Perry/Mills?
Magic underpaying for Vucevic. We offer 4 years at 120 mil. Hes young and talented and the magic aint going nowhere. He would get a LOT of recognition in MSG.

Same. And I'm against spending money to spend it as a FA strategy, but he fits.
Also, his ability to play in the post, but also creatively from 3 point line on in fits pretty nicely next to a C like Mitch. And while I'm not saying rookie Mitch is career Mitch, Mitch is going to be more similar to what he was last year, then suddenly turn into Hakeem with a jump shot.
Meaning, Randle compliments what Mitch is now and allows him some time to develop more offensively
If you add just Randle and some minor guys, do you think we can make the playoffs?
No.
I'd see this as an iterative step in the rebuild, IF they were to do it. Which is also why I'd rather keep the contract short, just in case it doesn't work out, but also to keep in play going after FA's, say in 2022.
Really just thinking out loud.
The Knicks are in a rebuild.
Nothing other than two max cats is going to make them a playoff team.
I have doubts Kawhi and nothing else, for instance, makes them a playoff team.
Yes, there are fans who want another outright "tank" season, to guarantee that pick no lower than 5
Tanking is being discouraged - no need to explain the new odds
So, it's probable the Knicks try to win games this year, even if it's "all the young dudes"
Randle would add to the young guys
The debate is whether it's worth losing a max slot - and I'm not advocating max pay for Randle - maybe 20x2
The scenario I'm imagining is Randle in one max slot, with some money left over from that slot, the other max salary slot is left open for a FA next year (yes, I know the FA class is weak) or for that player, each year, who asks to be traded. Or the following year.
So, it's a combination of iterative step in the rebuild and maintaining some of the cap financial flexibility.
I don't know. It's a thought. I'm not taking a stand on it, just thinking about it. I can think of several ways to argue against it as I state hypotheticals for it.

And someone said he touted KD & Kyrie to the Nets, but this seems to imply that it's KD to the Knicks because of Rich Kleinman, and the whole "Kleinman is a huge fan of Knicks, want's FO input" etc.
Sounds like another guy staking out multiple positions

I'm sure it's not a playoff team but:
DSJr/Frank
RJ/Trier
Knox/Dotson
Randle/? (mario?)
Mitch/?
Would be a fun team to watch

More proof Fiz has zero f*cks to give about defense
Definitely solid proof the Knicks could have an interest.
Last year from his interviews he seems to like guys who can defend. We just dont have any great defenders besides Frank and Mitch
Could have fooled me based on some of his lineup choices and combinations.
Let's assume it was a tank season. Interested to see what happens this year.
Some overall accountability around play, for ALL players, might be nice.
This season should be more interesting. We should be trying to win. Last season Fiz just got to comfortable experimenting so I dont think that would be fair to judge him because he even made some bizarre late game substitutions that clearly seemed like tanking so this upcoming season I think we would actually get to see what kind of system we will be running going foward.

Grads also said we were going to strike out on getting RJ Barrett. He is basically Tommy Dee with one or two sources in the league (probably a Laker player)

Kawhi aint coming here and KD would just be more of the same. Keep Rebuilding the right way, gathering assets, and real players will start to come. But we dont always have to waste money on FA bums like THJ. We just need to rebuild our brand. The quick fixes never ever eveeeeeeer work. Just because we have money doesnt mean we have to throw it away.
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

Re: Offseason Thread: Sunday Funday can't come fast enough
The Knicks have a bunch of young talent including at least two players who have the potential to be studs, six first round picks in the next four years, and $70MM in cap space, and of course Knicks fans are panicking.
I know everyone is scared that the Knicks are going to sign some less than stellar players to outrageous contracts, but that doesn't seem to be Perry's way. And the rumor being floated out there that Rozier would be open to a one or two year contract gives me even more confidence in Perry (aka Mr. Team Option).
I mentioned it in the previous thread, but if the Knicks miss out on their preferred free agents, there are still so many opportunities out there for them.
The easiest option is clearly signing some young players to short term contracts to evaluate if they fit with the core. Rozier and Randle on 2 year contracts isn't awful. Not my first choices, and more like my ninth and tenth choices, but if the Knicks think they can coach them up, I'm okay with them taking a chance. Rozier in particular has the aptitude, if not the mentality just yet, to be a plus defender, and he's a very good rebounder for his position. Offensively, his most promising stats are his percentages of 38% and 35% from three the past two years at a solid volume. Clearly, his overall FG% and TS% are awful. But so were Mudiay's coming into last year: Mudiay had a 37.3 FG% on almost career 2,000 shots, and then he jumped up to almost 45% last year! If Rozier can take a similar leap, that's a really solid player.
Other possibilities for the Knicks:
1. Absorb contracts like Gallinari, Tyler Johnson, Jeff Teague, Hassan Whiteside or James Johnson, etc. along with picks or young players. Could you get Mikal Bridges or someone like Justice Winslow if Riley thinks he can make a run at Jimmy Butler?
2. Consolidate some of our talent into a young player on a cost-controlled contract. I'm not sure who's available, but I'd certainly target players like Aaron Gordon and Jonathan Isaac.
TLDR version: Until otherwise proven, I trust Perry to make the best moves he can or at least not harpoon the Knicks' immediate future like so many of his predecessors.

Pass on Randle still unless he slips thru the cracks and comes cheep. I think someone will pay him though.
On the right team, for the right deal he can be good. We should not throw out big deals for non-stars.

Randle is a guy who takes a lot of shots on bad teams and generally adds little other than his own stats. The Pelicans stunk last year and have a better roster than the Knicks.

While I agree with your overall take, I'm just not sold on Rozier as part of it.
Knicks have the following at G: DSJr, Frank, Trier and RJ.
So, that's two PG's, both of which half the fanbase doesn't like, for basically opposite reasons. But they are still young and worth another year of a "look" - in my opinion. Then, at SG - RJ and Trier. Both seem to like having the ball in their hands, both are probably score first, but will look to pass, assuming RJ a bit more.
Adding Rozier is adding a guy who isn't that great, but is young enough to have "something to prove" and proving that means he's going to want minutes and shots, and they'll come at the expense of any, some, or all of the 4 guys mentioned.
