DLo is THJr part 2 as well
DLo is an All Star who lead his team to the playoffs and proved, even if it was just one year (he's still only 23) that he's capable of carrying the weight. Tell me when has THJ ever carried his team anywhere as the main guy? DLo is closer to Kyrie than he is to THJ
DLo was 24/8 the day the calendar year changed, did it without LeVert or Dinwiddie. 2nd best player was arguably Joe Harris. Dude deserves 20 mil per at his age.

Disaster is a strong word, but I think it's a bad move. And this is from someone who always liked the idea of signing FA's, and keeping all the kids (within reason) to develop.
You are ok with KD + another star, but not ok with just KD?
Heres the thing. With KD on the shelf theres not even an immediate rush to bring in another star. Whats the difference if we bring in the star in '20 or '21?. It could be an advantage in that we could get a top pick to add to the core next year.
I think if we play that card right we could be set up realky nice short and long term. Durant could be the guy to help our young guys learn how to win
Possible scenario. I think FA money should be used to go all in, and that means at once. With KD, it's go "half in", wait a year, hope for the best and hope KD recovers to 90%.
Not really sold on the idea.
Mostly, any desire I have at seeing KD a Knick now, is so the year long rumors happen so the team and it's fanbase don't look like total chumps.

I disagree with that. I think we need to be prepared to have a multi-year plan if things don't go a certain.
My plan A would def to spend on 2 superstars right now, but i dont think that's likely to happen. If we leave flexibility there will be opportunities to pick up another star in a trade or free agency later

For example, in a year we could have something like,:
Mitch
KD
RJ
Beal
Top pick in '20
With maybe some Trier, Frank, Knox, DSJ, dallas picks (trade some of them for Beal maybe,)

Delusional isn’t even the word. You give KD the bag, hope for his recovery and let him help you recruit. This ain’t rocket science. KD waiting in the wings > not having KD in the wings. I’m done tanking, the tank will never **** end if we keep this **** up.

Here's how the analogy holds.
He's not timmy. He's better than that. Just like Randle isn't some "no D scrub who only puts up #'s on bad teams"
BOTH guys are in a position to be paid more than they are worth (initially), at a time when their value is still "rising" (hopefully).
THJr was signed for 17(or 18?) per, for 4 years. It was recognized that it was a bit of an overpay. Mills tried to sugercoat it as saying it was "fair" but that he might even develop and exceed it. Didn't happen.
Now you have two guys in a similar, though BETTER, career arc, but who will also command a MAX salary. DLo for sure, Randle strong possibility.
The THJr comparisons are just a shorthand analogy of possibly overpaying for talent you HOPE rises, but might not.
Both players could blossom and be worth, truly, every cent of 23 million. Both players could exceed the 23 million of value. Both players could fall short, feel like they are worth 5-7 million less than they got paid, and occupy a nice chunk of cap space for 4 years.
It's a risk, and the Knicks, and us as fans, would have to trust their scouts.
And I know "worth" is whatever somebody can get a team to pay. I'm trying to assign a general "bang for buck" with a player, and that is particularly important for max cats.

yeah, there is no need to pay a backup center much money anymore.
