DLO is having a career year playing for a new contract and big payday.
I would be wary of paying him max contract.
I would be wary of paying him max contract.

4 Years, $117,450,906
Nets can offer:
Year 1: 27,250,000
Year 2: 29,430,000
Year 3: 31,784,400
Year 4: 34,327,152
Year 5: 37,073,324
4 Years, 122,791,552 or 5 Years, 159,864,876
DLo wants to stay, and the Nets want him to stay. Somebody will be willing to offer him a 4 year max, and the Nets would match it.
My guess is he takes a discount and locks in to a 5/$125mil deal with the Nets. Nets will frontload it as much as they can, similar to what Orlando did with Gordon.
I hope this happens but I'd guess we still need to find a way to keep that cap hold if this do happen so we can go over the cap and do other things with the cap space.
They'll agree to a contract, but he'll sign last, just like Joe Harris and Ed Davis did this year. He'll have the $21mil cap hold until he signs.

Russell is clearly not having a better season than Oladipo in Indiana last season. Oladipo was an elite defender and was still better offensively than Russell, Dipo ranked 6th overall in RPM last year for a reason.

Clearly not considering Russell only appeared in 48 games due to knee surgery. That has absolutely nothing to do with what I said or anything to do with this season.

The GMs need to not be stupid and offer slighty above-average players max deals. Baseball is currently trying to correct the same problem with the absurd contracts they have dealt in the pass. Unfortunately I think it too late for them as small markets are doomed and the sport is boring and sucks.

Paying a point guard not named Magic Johnson full max is (Please Use More Appropriate Word). What does D'Angelo offer that Nets can't find anywhere else?

Does giving him the fifth year hurt them? Like would it keep them from trading for someone like with the Kyrie situation?

Almost half a decade of repairing the franchise would be p!ssed away if they gave him the max.
I am 100% certain their sensible front office is not even considering it. He's excellent bait for getting something in return though. If there's a team willing to offer him anything over $100m/5yrs, send him to them and get an excellent piece in return.
They are literally better off tanking one season than locking themselves into a contract they will not be able to dump, take it from a Rockets fan. Just looking at the rationale for doing it: his best ever MOMENT is better than Westbrook's worst ever season in one singular category. Or my favorite, compare him to Devin Booker. My lord. These are terrible ways to make decisions not only about NBA contracts, but about life in general.
Good on the Nets for taking someone who was sinking and developing him into very nice fool's gold. Final step is to get a return on it that they deserve, which is either a sign and trade or sign him to a contract $100m and below. He will never be more than a 3rd star and they know it.

for one, bird rights. being able to spend their cap, then go over the cap to sign him.
second, he has led us to a 30-29 record and the 6th seed with a star level effort in january/february.
Who exactly can do what Dlo can do thats available? Kemba? Kyrie. Nets would probably persue one or both to play alongside Dlo.

Let him go and bring back JJ, cheaper and JJ has more AS appearances. Not to mention JJ is a proven clutch performer

1)Johnson has played 14 more seasons then Russell. I would hope he would have more all-star apperances
2) Russell has been super clutch as a Net. Johnson had a string of game winners with the nets at one point, but overalll their numbers in close and late situations are pretty similar
The Hate for Russell is strong... A humble 22 year old dropping 20/7/4 and leading a team of late round picks and d-leaguers to a 6th seed shouldnt be getting this level of heat

Yeah the better you are the longer you will play in the NBA...why do you think Johnson has played 14 more seasons

Because he came into the league 14 years earlier.
For Dlo to have played as long as Joe Johnson he would have to have entered the NBA straight out of Kindergarden.

But they do hate and usually it is player envy. How many other rebuilding teams have 20-23 year old players doing what Russell is doing? PG is the toughest position to fill and getting one who both scores and distributes well is a pipe dream for most NBA Teams. Some are doing neither rofl.

Hard to compare Dlo’s half season of great basketball. He will need to show it consistently and on the defensive side.
He was lucky the injuries to get the AS spot. There are not many teams that would pick Dlo over Oladipo right now.

Can you show me you can be objective? Because we all know everyone thought he was an all-star and deserved to be in over Lowry.

We can save this comment, but as I've learned, most times when someone on here talks out of their ass and gets called out on it later down the line, that person usually avoids the thread when it gets upped (see: the "Josh Hart is better than D'Angelo Russell" thread for details).
I'm making a bet that Brooklyn won't get any marque free agents, I'm not betting the life of my first born child. Jesus Christ. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. We'll see in July.
No but you did bet that you'd eat both of your hands if they sign a 3rd tier FA. Not sure how you would define 3rd tier but dont forget to post a video when it happens.
Looks like I'm losing this bet...
