really thought that Jimmy was a Philly kind of warrior, and the fans loved him. and Jimmy gave a lot of support to our locker room, especially Embiid. sorry to see him go. but Richardson is a solid acquisition if Ben can develop from shiny unicorn to legit fully functional pg.

Haven't seen much of him, what's his 3%? Is he a good defender?

He's a amazing defender and a good 3 point shooter, if given shots he'll average close to what Jimmy did, with defensive intensity and 3 years younger

I'm intrigued by him. Very concerned about his post season disappearing acts.

In game 5. He was otherwise pedestrian.

I love this dude. Underrated. Own him in fantasy whenever possible. Legitimate all-team defense potential, and quickly growing into a two-way force. He's improved every year he's been in the league.

Great head on his shoulders, but sometimes lacks confidence, particularly when the shot isn't falling. I think his shooting slumps will be less pronounced in an offense where he will likely be the fourth option with space to breath. He was often the first option for Miami last season.

He also took some big strides as a playmaker in 2018-19, filling in for Dragic during his extended absence. He should provide some secondary playmaking outside Ben and Al.

Richardson has only the fourth-highest usage rate (21.1) on the Heat this season, but raising his usage will be difficult. He gets 34.9 percent of his offensive possessions as the ball handler in the pick-and-roll despite being in only the 42nd percentile of scorers leaguewide on those plays. He might struggle further in a playoff setting, when defenses are more likely to switch the screen and force the ball handler to score in one-on-one matchups, where Richardson is least effective.

Everything comes back to the 3 for Richardson. There is only so much that a player with his physical tools can improve around the rim. He needs most of his offense to come from the perimeter. The growth he has made as a scorer has come primarily from raising his 3-point rate. There may be room to raise it more. He is attempting 6.5 3s per game this season. How much better could he be if he pushed that number to eight? Or even 10, the number that Paul George is averaging? It’s unclear what Richardson’s limit would be. The only thing we know for sure is that he hasn’t hit it yet.

The key to his growth will be the types of 3s he’ll take. The big jump in his 3-point rate this season has come from taking an extra 1.6 pull-up 3s per game, but that may not be the best path to raising it further. He is shooting only 29 percent on those shots. The threat of the shot is important for how it sets up the rest of his game, but it doesn’t have to be the centerpiece of what he does. The Heat could do more to build their offense around his ability to shoot off movement. George takes 1.6 more shots per game after coming around screens off the ball than Richardson, who gets only 5.7 percent of his offensive possessions this season out of those plays, despite scoring in the 63rd percentile on them.

Weird hill to die on since James Ennis has never come even close to approaching Richardson's numbers that he had last year.

Positives:
- 6-11 wingspan. So he’s longer than Jimmy.
- A way better floor spacer than Jimmy.
- Has been on the uptrend as a player compared to Jimmy.
- Been learning the PnR but has struggled, have some room for improvement here.
- could be a better player than Jimmy in 3 years.
- 1.5 ORPM and 1.85 RPM, top 8 among SGs

Josh Richardson running PnR:

Defers a lot on PnR but atleast he takes those 3s, unlike Jimmy.

Actually top 6 RPM since the list mistakely has SF Paul George and C Steven Adams at that position for some reason lol. It also has Russell Westbrook, so you could put him as high as #5 among SG's.

If he can get up to +3 next year that's huge. Definitely possible on a much better team in a role that fits him better, ala our previous RPM superstar RoCo.

The pairings I project next season.

Josh Richardson-Embiid + 2nd unit

Horford-Tobias-Ben+2nd unit

2nd unit:
Mike Scott (great fit with Horford or Biid)
Zhaire
Thybulle
