I know we are all kind of waving good bye to tampering, but this is a bit odd to me. I'm cool with agents talking to teams, but why would Horford feel like he had to stick to a commitment he made (apparently) a week before FA even began? What a good guy, I guess, lol.

I swear I just saw this cryptic Craigslist ad but then it was quickly taken down:

Starting PF and C needed. Contact DA immediately.

Why would Horford commit to Philly before this front office could work their magic?

That’s just idiotic on his part.

Probably because the Celtics FO told them we were going to offer 3 years/~$80M and Philly said they'd do 4 years/~$100M and he was like, ok then Philly it is?

Just guessing :dontknow:

At this point I really dont know what would be wrong with going for Kanter and that French dude. Stop gap solutions but there’s nothing else out there. Give Timelord a starting gig & 20 mins a game and let him develop. Let Kanter get offensive rebounds and just go from there.

I dont see another viable - read defensively - option out there?

FWIW - Kemba enjoyed playing with Dwight in Charlotte, and I believe we were interested in him last summer after he got bought out from the Nets.

I'm guessing Horford was upset that Danny didn't trade the young guys like Brown, for Kawhi last season.

Horford took the money. Fair play. He would be crazy to turn that down and he gave us his all. That said, he's the enemy now. **** Philly and **** the media that already has them as easy East faves. Embiid and Simmons are our sons.

Something tells me Horford is going to regret signing with the 76ers. They look good on paper but we'll see.

Pretty common for employees who ask for a raise (extension/new contract) with their currrent employer, but don't get it until they give notice that another company is willing to give them what they want, never to feel great about their original employer again. (And the original employer often never quite trusts that employee again, even if they do decide to stay.) I think something like that dynamic was probably going on with Horford.

This may not satisfy anyone expecting to truly compete this year, but keeping our powder dry and remaining financially "pliable*" may pay dividends down the road. Remember the "Fallout of 2016". The last time there was a similar confluence of FA's and (more) money teams made bad decisions that handicapped their ability to sign valuable players in the future.
Our FO is smart. In a high stakes game against other skilled players where luck plays a significant role you are going to suffer defeat. The loss makes the victory all the more sweet.

Get this guy. PnR partner of Kemba for years. They already know each other's games.

i don't know what the rush is. we were always going to trade a wing for a big once we signed gordon. his ankle boop screwed that up. one of hayward or brown will be gone this year, (could be smart but i doubt it). cant be hayward until he gets a chance to recoup value. isnt much need to make a foolish signing just so we can compete for coolest july roster contest

also deep down, danny and brad are like "pfffffft BiGgS lul"

What if, now stay with me for a second, what if the Celtics are just extremely confident that their first round pick has developed exactly as planned and they don’t feel the need to rush to the market because they are confident in what he can provide.

Enter Robert Williams.

Wouldn't surprise me. During his FA meeting 3 seasons ago Ainge probably promised rainbow farting unicorns just to end up with Ainge being a cheapskate.
