Good signing. He's peaking and I think he'd start at 2 while Vic is rehabbing.

Nate Silver is a very respected analytics guy. he started as a baseball stats analyst and then expanded his statistical models to elections. first I've heard of this model, but Nate has credibility.

Oh agreed. I know Nate and respect him. I just don’t know the statistical modeling or so.

Bojan tested out as one of the lowest via this modeling due to his pay increase and age.

Big fan of Jeremy Lamb. He was amazing UConn team that won the national championship. I feel like he’s the type of player that would literally do anything to win. Isn’t elite level at any one area, but does everything well and enough to help the team. Scored a bit, can rebound, hustles, plays defense and can pass a bit. I’m not sure how good our bench will be when he’s starting for Vic early in the season but I would imagine he will be a strong starter for us when we need to rely on him.

Guessing the Pacers see a solid two way player. I like the strategy of creating a stable of 6’5” ish long guys who can defend and shoot. lamb, Brogdon, Vic, Sumner capable of guarding positions 1-3. Brogdon’s ability to play PG allows us to have three of them on the court at the same time.

What a steal. Lamb has improved every year and is still a year or 2 from his prime. Honestly cant believe me signed for 10M a year.

I’m wondering how the lineups shake out when Vic comes back, I think it’s Lamb vs. Warren competing for the final starting spot.

I’m leaning toward having Lamb start at the 3, with a big lineup of Myles/Domas I could see surrounding them with 3 big guards. Brogdon is already known to guard small forwards and I think that athleticism and versatility will balance out the 2 big lineup.

I actually think Warren could be a really nice 6th man type backing up the 3/4 spots.

Brogdon/Holiday
Vic/Sumner
Lamb/Warren
Sabonis/Leaf
Turner/Goga

Holiday/Warren as the key reserves with 8-10th spots filled by Goga/Leaf/Sumner. I feel like McDermott is deep bench now unless he outplays Sumner, but I expect Sumner is prime for a slightly bigger role.

Certainly possible. I think the starting lineup needs as many share-the-ball types as it can hold, and that would mean Lamb over Warren. Warren can be the designated bench scorer, a role which should suit him.

Does it worry anyone else that we're pegging Holiday as 7th man and one of Goga/Leaf/Sumner as 8th? Unless the young guys develop overnight, the roster doesn't seem at all deep. McConnell stepping into Holiday's role seems like a distinct possibility to me. Likewise Dougie over Sumner could well happen. For 9th man (and 4th big) it would have to be between Leaf and Goga, unless we sign another big.

I'm completely fine with this because I think these guys need to sink or swim. If it's not working out maybe address it at the deadline or in the buyout market.

Guys like Leaf, Holiday, Sumner etc... need to prove they belong in the NBA and they can't do that sitting on the bench. Mcconnell seems like insurance in case Holiday isn't cutting it. Goga is pretty much going to play the O'quinn role I expect center minutes to still largely be split between Turner and Sabonis with staggered lineups. I'm glad to see the team get a little more top heavy talent wise to force these young guys into a role.

That's not what they're saying. They want to sink or swim with Sabonis starting which makes Goga the 2nd unit center.

Hard to say. We could still stagger rotations and pull Dom first, with an undetermined TJ coming in, and then Dom coming back in a short time later for Myles, or after a short run of Goga. Much like we managed the guards over the last while, especially with Lance.

Doesn’t the staff get a good look at these guys in training camp and practice. If they can or can’t play why do they need to sink or swim in games? We can’t see what happens behind the scenes but those that make the decisions certainly do.

This is what I expect. They will start together but I still expect both to see minutes at center in smaller lineups.

Well if they are comfortable going into it with these guys don't you think that's probably the case?

I always think people put too much stock in who the 9th and 10th man are going to be during the offseason. It's like people being mad about the Mcdermott signing, he's the 10th man and a shooting specialist on a less than MLE contract... big whoop. We've got young guys who are probably ready for a role and if not, we've still got some reasonable vets like Mcconnell and Mcdermott who can step in if needed.

Relying on a rookie for center minutes could be the one argument, but I'm really looking at him as more of a third stringer and if Pritchard is to be believed, the guy is extremely NBA ready coming out of Euroleague. I mean would we rather sign some big stiff off the scrap heap to get minutes ahead of him? I'm good with seeing what happens.

Youll like Lamb... he's not a perfect player and his lack of 3pt shooting really hurts his value off the ball.

very good scorer with ball in his hands, very good rebounder, and an underrated defender... he isnt a really good defender but he used to be pretty bad and still has that label as a bad one sometimes which he isnt

he will fill the role well that Tyreke evans failed to fulfill last year. I like him a lot better running a 2nd unit that lacks scoring punch than i do as a starter playing off the ball but he can do either adequately..

Thanks! We’re hoping that he does an able job filling in as starter until Vic comes back and then he’ll either start at SF or come off the bench where his skill set (little bit of everything, master of none) will likely serve better.

FWIW of our additions this offseason, he's the guy I like best after Brogdon. I agree that he's not as good off the ball, but I think his ballhandling and playmaking are good enough that he might end up being the de facto point guard a lot.
