The NBA constantly rewards flopping, so everyone knows that it is an skill. He is one of the best at that.
The biggest problem is gonna be his shooting and scoring ability. He is not good finishing at the rim, so everyone knows that he is trying to pass when going to the hole.
Watching Utah I understand why did not want him anymore, but on our team he is a clear upgrade over Melton and Okobo. We are a better team than yesterday.
Maybe not great, but another thing he is better at than DLo....58.6% at the rim compared to DLos 55.2%

I knew Russell wasn't very good at the rim but I'm surprised Rubio has improved so much as I hadn't watched him as much in Utah. Tried to look up his spot up % as I've always felt he a capable spot up shooter, mostly because teams play off him and it allows him to get his shot off since he really doesn't get any lift on hist jumper. He has always had a good FT %.

Jazz were top 25 with the lineup that included rubio. Watch film, and let's see how this was a success.

I'm not a fan of him as a coach fwiw..
Are you a fan of another team that had him as coach? Why not a fan of him as coach?
He's not very bright. Has a losing record. Haralabob , whose opinion I trust, thought Monty was just about the worst coach in the league when he was the HC of NO.

I was bootlegging movies on my computer when I decided to look up more about Rubio. I just realized he's WAY bigger than I thought he was. He's 6'4", just like Kidd! I had him pegged at least two inches shorter.

^ If only he could have a Kidd-like renaissance and learn to shoot threes too.

Haralob Voulgaris, the guy who bets on sports for a living because he's good at calling things? Great, though Monty also said he was not a very good coach back then and learned a lot about what he did wrong the first go around. He has since worked in OKC and Philly and is quite a bit older so hopefully he's improved. Put a good staff around him.
We don't really have any defense though. Probably be good to take the over in every game we play.

never say never I guess. back when Kidd first joined us he was no better of a shooter (in fact worse from the line). check out his first full season with Phoenix in 97-98. We won 56 games that year with a point guard people can sag off, apparently.

Look! He has alternating decent 3pt shooting seasons. Look at his 3pt% season by season...he's due this year!

Yeah I'm going to predict Rubio having a mark price like season for us the next few years, and that's mark price with these rules, just a shooting monster. Absolutely.

Still hard to believe he had a 4 (3.5 really) season stretch averaging close to 9apg (8.8) on 2.6to's......yeah he can't shoot for the life of him (in alternating seasons) but the kid knows how to make plays. You can't go 4 seasons as the lead guard an average a 3.3A:T ratio and not be a good play maker.

Re: Welcome Ricky Rubio
If we play at a faster pace and get running in transition a lot I think Rubio can be much better here than he was in Utah. They had such little offensive creation on that team that he was asked to do more than he should be. He's a PG who should thrive in a high tempo offense rather than running set plays in the half court all the time.
Though, I don't have a lot of confidence that Monty will want us to push the pace.

He is 6'3, I do not care what ESPN says. That is why you never thought that he is 6'4, because he is not.
Just watch him next to Calderon, who is 6'3 too.

He is 6'3 but he has a terrific 6'9 wingspan. That helps him with steals and deflections.

Rubio actually measured 6'5 with shoes. Most players are listed with their shoe height...Probably 6'3.5 w/o shoes. They split the difference at 6'4.

But he's not using socks! That definitely takes an inch from him, right there.
