Re: Grant Williams thread
Not sure if anyone has posted this in-season analysis of GW's game, but the author believes that Williams can be on Dray's level if paired with an "elite" small-ball initiating PG, like Kyrie, or a "next tier" SB initator...like Kemba.

Re: Grant Williams thread
I just looked at Williams' March Madness highlight video. (His tournament didn't last long, ended by Carsen Edwards' Purdue team despite some end-of-regulation interaction between them that looked like it was going the other way.) He does a lot of stuff two-handed, especially steals, blocks (in which he often controls the ball or at least get a call of tie-up) and dunks. So there really is a bit of seeing him decide to do something and just unstoppably doing it, ala' Marcus Smart, although Williams' blocks/steals mix is more on the blocks side than Smart's.

I’m more excited to see GWill in action than I am Kemba. Don’t ask me why.

Watched few full games of Williams since the Celtics drafted him. Watching those videos made me realize how good of a player Admiral Schofield is. I think he will be the steal of this draft and Wizards fans will really love him.

Impressed, he can even make a bank

Not sure but I think it might have something to do with him believing our planet is a circular shape.

A happy, nice guy version of Dray would be stellar.

He looks like a taller version of Smart indeed. But with better offensive skills. Very good pick by Ainge.Fencer reregistered wrote:I just looked at Williams' March Madness highlight video. He'd be a huge steal in this draft if he turns out like Dray with better post moves and a 3-pointer.

I think we can all agree that if he's a better Draymond Green, this will have been a great pick. Indeed, if he equals Green in value this will have been a great pick.

Re: Grant Williams thread
Not going to lie I had never heard of this guy when we drafted him and was crushed when I saw his height.
Then he checks into SL for the first time and causes a turnover on an inbounds pass 94 feet away from the hoop. Gets the ensuing inbounds pass and dunks it. Then proceeds to make shot happen all game while looking like a little David West.
Swoon.

Smart and Grant gonna be best buds. Wish we had a defensive center to complete the set but this is nice. I like defense. He's not a zero on offense either.

I tried to look up his rating, but the site is horrific. As a test, I looked up some famous players, and also myself, and none of us existed in the system at all. So the fact that none of the Grant Williams listings are good matches for what we know about him proves next to nothing.

If they're gonna come off the bench with Edwards and Rob, and even cameos from Tacko, that's some serious bench D.

He looks very mature for his age. That's special, he understands the game and makes the right decisions.

The nice thing to see immediately transfer from college to summer league is how completely unfazed Williams is by taller defenders - he knows how to find daylight for his shot.

Re: Grant Williams thread
I said on game thread after watching him for a minute that he is too good for summer league. He looks more mature out there than Brown, Smart, KO or Rozier did as second years. That out of bounds save pass between legs leading to a dunk was the highlight of the game. I really love this guy....but he has no length whatsoever. Can he succeed at the next level at a high level like Draymond or will his lack of length minimize his impact like a Gomes (who was SL MVP)? Can he be an effective rebounder at next level? Shaun Marion was an elite PF at 6-7 so I’m not writing him off. At a minimum he is going to be a dangerous corner 3 guy.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."
