As proven last year, Teague is injury prone. I find it hard to believe anyone would be comfortable with Napier as the next man up in that situation. Not the sole reason to match but something to think about.

I really think Minnesota should match here, I think Tyus is a really healthy piece for this team.

Does it matter if the contract offer is front loaded?

I personally would prefer that (assuming Minnesota properly stays under the Luxury-Tax, we literally can't go above it), given Minnesota does not have any flexibility anyways this season.

If we choose not to sign tyus.

Sign and trade him for one of those many 2nd round picks the grizz are hoarding.

Once a player signs an offer sheet, his original team can either match or let him go. They can’t sign-and-trade him.

I'd probably match it. Teague won't be here longterm. Even if we draft someone next year, Tyus won't be breaking the bank with this offer.

I hope we match, but it really depends on what future moves Rosas has up his sleeve. Napier/Graham as a backup is terrifying. The honeymoon period is quickly wearing off this new FO and it appears Rosas messed up if the above is true.

Unless Wolves are confident in Nowell, I would match 8 mil a year for Tyus. Shouldn't be difficult to move if it needs to be. Wolves aren't going to need that cap space for anything this year, next year is the question mark in which his contract could affect wolves plans, and last year is expiring so it should be easy to move.

I think he's a decent player and Teague is gone this midseason or at the end of year so I think Tyus is a good insurance stopgap for a decent price. At this point, he's probably the best ball handler who can protect the ball and pace on the team so there is some need for his skillset

Geezes, don't choke Wolves and have another medicore player locked up for 3 years that everyone will regret. Please let him go.

I hope they can convert Nowell to a backup point guard, I believe he handled plenty of his colleague team's offense last year, averaging nearly 4 assist per game despite playing SG

I saw plenty of Rui Hachimura's highlight before draft showcasing him getting fed by Nowell

WTF is a FO that was spoon fed some terrible contracts and have no space from the previous regime supposed to do?

I'm not even sure who exactly you're referring to, but this is a far different situation than the two who come to mind: Teague and Aldrich

Regarding Teague, the first year of his deal was 19.2% of the salary cap. Jones' first year will be roughly 7.3% of the salary cap in the first year. And the key difference between Jones and Aldrich (8.1% of cap) is that everyone knew when Aldrich signed it would be as a backup behind a likely longterm fixture here, and eventually he was completely buried by a coach who refused to play his bench. Teague isn't the longterm guy here, and there's no heir apparent on the roster besides Jones if they match the offer sheet.

I'm just referring to Tyus, and if you want a back-up point guard for 8M a year you can have him. I'll take a one-year deal elsewhere, and draft one next year thank you very much.

Can still draft one next year. Even if they match Tyus, he'll be the only one under contract going into the offseason. $8 million isn't starter money.

I'd rather have 8M off salary for the next 3 years, thank you though.

I agree they can still draft one.

As everyone knows, I like Tyus, and I feel he gets under-appreciated around the league. He found an offer this year that was bigger than I expected for a back up point guard, and the whole back up PG market has come in higher than expected. However, it will certainly decrease next year, as even more PG’s enter the market.

I agree $8 mil isn’t too much for a good back up, but it is too much for a good back up PG. I like the kid, but I do not think he will be a positive contract next summer, and we shouldn’t overpay, especially for back up PG’s or C’s. Those are two positions where there is such market crowding, that good teams will save money there.

I’d do $5, $5, $5, and maybe even $6, $6, $6. However, $9, $8, $7 is too much for me to match, A deal like that reminds me of ten years ago, when we had a bench full of mediocre guys with contracts a little too big for the league. At this numbers you thank Tyus, and move on.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think we won't match the offer. With all the talk of flexibility and star-chasing, I just think it might put us too close to the tax line for comfort.

We could probably sign someone like Jeremy Lin for half that amount.....someone Rosas and Pascucci both have connections with from Houston and Brooklyn.

See ya later Tyus. 3/28 for a backup PG with a broken jumper is ridiculus.
There are probably a dozen PGs you could have for the vet min with slightly worse production.
He could have signed the QO and hoped to take the starter role from Teague,
but can't blame him for taking the money,
I might have done 3/15 or even 2/14, but 3/28 is way too much.

You would think memphis would have learned from the Kyle Anderson contract, but no. Easy call to not match.
Napier slides into the backup PG role and it possibly opens up some minutes for Nowell.
If they hadnt even made him an offer for multiple years, as rumored, I see no reason that they would match this.
Pushes us up right tight against the luxury tax, giving us no trade/signing wiggle room, that alone should be enough reason to not match.
Likely drafting a PG next year in what is supposedly a loaded draft.
If he wasnt a hometown guy, there wouldnt even be a question.

Good foresight with the Napier trade by Rosas.

That would be tough considering Hachimura played for Gonzaga and Nowell played for Washington. The player I believe you are thinking of is Zack Norvell (name close enough I can't blame you for the mix up)
