Yeah I really like what I saw from Nowell, he has an NBA ready made jumper and more handle and athleticism than his draft position would indicate. Would be great if he could win the backup PG role in his rookie year.

Bye tyus very annoying the wolves could not even get a second round pick out of him and are losing him for
Nothing that’s another wasted first round pick like patton.

Just too bad we can’t see him play during summer league.

Not wasted, we got 4 years out of him.

We can still match as well and still be under the luxury tax line.

Looks like the differentiation between numbers reported by different sources comes down to incentives. His agent calls the incentives "likely to be achieved," which is why he's using the $28 million figure ("likely incentives" do factor into player/team salary amounts, while "not likely incentives" do not) instead of $24 million.

Fairly certain the above tweet by Marks is using the bigger $28 million number.

I'm torn but I think I would match this. On the other hand i'm intrigued by the idea of having playing time for Nowell.

No love for Tyus here... 28/3 is not bargain, but show a bit of love to Tyus and will exceed expectations. Before throwing some sh*t at him, I'd like to remind you that has averaged 11ppg, 7.3apg on 1to, 1spg per 30 minutes as starter, while shooting 45% fg and 35% 3pt. In my opinion it is a good reason to sign him. If that info in tweet is correct he was asking foк much less. We lost our chance to re-sign for cheap a year ago. And that was not his fault.

I don't know what we're going to do with that $8-9 million that would provide more value for the team than just keeping Tyus would.

He's not a great shooter, but he's pretty damn good at everything else, especially TAKING CARE OF THE BALL, a skill which is a PG's primary responsibility and a skill at which he has no peers in the league. He's LITERALLY the best at it if you look at A:TO ratio.

Teague's not getting any younger and last year Tyus played about 22-23 mpg. If a guy is going to quarterback your team for half the game - and he might well end up doing that again - he's worth that kind of money.

And I think the idea that Jaylen Nowell is going to provide us - in a reasonable time frame - with what we already know we can get out of Tyus - is a a stretch.

I understand why some people are balking - it's not a sexy purchase and there's not a whole lot of extra potential left here. It's like buying new tires when the old ones are starting to get a little too bald for comfort. But doing so means you don't end up on the side of the road halfway through your trip.

Who here, realistically, is ready to turn over the team's future over to a tandem of Shabazz Napier and Jaylen Nowell next year if Teague stubs a toe?

I say match it and keep him. Make cuts elsewhere if you need to.

Lean toward not matching. Stay with Teague this year and Bazz as back up for a season.

I think people who are hesitant to match Tyus' offer doesnt really think Tyus is not that good, but taking Rosas' side of maintaining flexibility.
And yes people would say "even with cap space, no one will sign here". But maintaining financial flexibility is really important for small market teams to make some big moves. Our cap situation was the big showstopper in gaining traction with DAngelo.

That's true but it's only cuz Dieng and Wiggins contracts were too large to move. This Jones contract would be very easy to move in his third year as an expiring contract, which leaves his second year in question. 2yr/16mil still will be pretty easy to move if a move must be made in my mind. Tyus helps this team as many have pointed to his ball handling and his ability to protect the ball, which Tyus does the best on this roster. He is only 23 years old and will most likely improve.

I wonder if the idea behind not re-signing might be to give Culver time at backup PG position in order to speed up his overal development. Like we did with Lavine. To me it makes more sense than Teague as full time PG or Napier as backup PG.

Could anyone clarify whether we could re-sign him this summer for that 25/4? Or it was only possible last offseason? As far as I remember Thibs did not offer anything last offseason, does it mean that we could not resign after that deadline?

A strong no on the match. Let him go Gersson. Good for Tyus. Congrats!

I think we would match. Teague is a physical liability and we should have a better than average backup.

Same here if something happens to teague oh well our lottery pick gets better and we finally try to draft the pg of the future( Nico Mannion?) or trade for him.

If we dont match MEM offer, I'd consider Culver as backup PG. I dont want Napier or other players on FA market. Still hope that we will match it.

I don't feel comfortable paying 9 mil for a backup playing 15 minutes a game. I don't think Rosas' is looking for a Jones type of PG anyway...

I think Rosas is a sharp guy. Trading Saric before you have to overpay him, drafting Culver and signing Layman confirms that.

But this is a strange one. 4/25$m was too much for Tyus? Every time I watched Wolves in the last couple of years I thought to myself: 'Is there a young PG in a worse situation?' Jones is a perfect player to gamble on.

Maybe I'm missing something. What is the plan for you guys?

IMO current roster will fight for the8th seed. Teague and Wiggins don't fit with Rosas' philosophy. Missing out on Russell really hurts. I just hope that ownership won't panic and pressure FO to do silly things like trading for Westbrook. I can't see a long-term PG being available now, maybe Dragic as a short-term upgrade?

That is why you trade Teague in midseason.
