I don't know what we're going to do with that $8-9 million that would provide more value for the team than just keeping Tyus would.
He's not a great shooter, but he's pretty damn good at everything else, especially TAKING CARE OF THE BALL, a skill which is a PG's primary responsibility and a skill at which he has no peers in the league. He's LITERALLY the best at it if you look at A:TO ratio.
Teague's not getting any younger and last year Tyus played about 22-23 mpg. If a guy is going to quarterback your team for half the game - and he might well end up doing that again - he's worth that kind of money.
And I think the idea that Jaylen Nowell is going to provide us - in a reasonable time frame - with what we already know we can get out of Tyus - is a a stretch.
I understand why some people are balking - it's not a sexy purchase and there's not a whole lot of extra potential left here. It's like buying new tires when the old ones are starting to get a little too bald for comfort. But doing so means you don't end up on the side of the road halfway through your trip.
Who here, realistically, is ready to turn over the team's future over to a tandem of Shabazz Napier and Jaylen Nowell next year if Teague stubs a toe?
I say match it and keep him. Make cuts elsewhere if you need to.
