What should we do if Dray declines the 4/100 extension
which he most likely will?
give him the full max after the season, or trade him before the deadline? those seem to be our only options at this point if he does decline the offer (I don't see Klutch agreeing to it at all).

The finals run may be ending, but it will definitely end when Draymond is no longer on the squad. I guess it comes down to when you want the team to start rebuilding. All of the talk about Giannis coming to the Warriors in 2021 is annoying as f*ck. Like the other 29 teams in the league are going to sit around and not make a play themselves.

I think the offer will be 2 yrs max with 3rd yr TO similar to Millsap deal.

Re: What should we do if Dray declines the 4/100 extension
I'm hoping we can agree on a compromise between the 4/100 he'd get now vs the 5/190 he'd get next year. Like 4/120 would be fine to me. I doubt there's any other team out there that would pay Dray 30 million a year, but you never know...Tobias Harris is getting 36 mill a year.

A 5-year extension next year that would seriously hinder our finances until he is 35 years old would be an unwise move. If he won't take the 4/100, I think we need to look at moving him for assets.

If Klay comes back strong and Steph turns 32 in March, you have to assess whether they'd still be in the window in the next couple of seasons as Steph will be around 34 or 35 at the end of his deal.
So for at least two more seasons of prime Curry, you want to surround him with the best supporting cast possible. If Draymond fits that, if he for instance plays next season the way he played in the playoffs, they have to keep him.
I don't know what kind of return they'd get for him anyways.
Yeah if they pay him the max, they can't add other FAs? For all we know, Russell could be traded for expirings which would open up cap space for next summer?
But it's suppose to be a weak FA class next year so ...

I'm pretty sure everybody understands that Giannis would have to chose the W's as an initial hurdle. Even then, we'd have to acquire him through sign-and-trade (unless we ditch two max players in trades to teams with cap space, which seems unlikely). It's natural to look forward to free agency down the road to consider the possibilities. I guarantee the front office is thinking about it. If Giannis chose the W's, it'll get done. That's a big IF, of course.

Giannis seems pretty loyal guy, grateful to the Bucks.
Unless they really do him wrong or is unable to contend, he's not going to leave them.
They did pay out a lot of salaries too and they even signed his brother.
Maybe if there's a big Greek expat community in the Bay Area ...

He very well may stay, absolutely. Landing Giannis is not something another franchise, like the W's, can plan on. You can think about how you might put yourself in a position to make a play for him, though. The front office will have that scenario game-planned out along with many other scenarios.

Can't trade him anymore now that we're stuck with DLo until proven otherwise, you just gotta pay him there's no other way.

I'm good with it if we get 5 great years out of him. But that's the concern in my opinion. Do we really get 5 great years out of him?
I'd say it'll be more like 2 all-star level years, an alright year and then 2 bad years at the end when he'll actually be making the most money. I don't think we want to pay him that kind of money if he will only be good for us for 40-60% of the contract.

Re: What should we do if Dray declines the 4/100 extension
If he declines the extension this offseason, I wait until next offseason and try to re-sign him. Pretty simple.
He’s too important to let walk and more valuable than anything you’d realistically get in a trade for him.

You don’t sign him to the max If he comes in overweight again like last year. It will show he has no discipline to deserve a 5 year max contract.

Saw a TMZ piece. He's chartering a big yacht off the coast of Sardinia.
Living well, maybe he could be training, working on his shooting.
Maybe he'll get it out of his system to go on these exotic vacations.
Then again, Steph and Klay are usually busy shilling for their shoe companies all summer too.
To be expected I guess with the success of the team and individually

Re: What should we do if Dray declines the 4/100 extension
If he takes the $100m/4, great. If not, what is he looking for? If I were Myers/Lacob I would be upfront and discuss with him. He is our player and we can talk about $ any time this season, with no restrictions. I am sure Draymond is willing to discuss as he considers himself a smart person and great businessman.
If he gets DPOY/All NBA will he demand the ~$238m supermax? If he doesn't, does he demand the full 30% max @ ~$204m/5 aka Klay's contract? Or is he willing to settle for what other team can pay him max = ~$151m/4? Or the Middleton contract which will be around $190m/5 for 2020?
If he plans to squeeze out everything i.e. at least $204m/5, we need to explore trading him. Thing is since he will be a FA in 2020, he is a rental unless it is to a team on his "list" - which I think will be the Lakers. In that scenario (Lakers), I would rather let him hit FA and see what he can get, and risk losing him for nothing. Because the Lakers have no cap next summer. I am still trying to find out which teams have cap room in 2020 so I can have a better picture.

Here are pretty good projections of cap space for 2020.

Everything I'm about to write is just for the sake of argument because I think there's 0 chance Dray gets moved now:
Players that leave for money aren't rentals because whoever has his bird rights is the only team that can give him the 5 years, the team just has to be willing.
Basically if you are willing to leave a team you won multiple championships for money no one is buying you'll just leave like 50+ million on the table because they sent you to some undesireable market, Dray can always Melo it and take the money first and ask for a trade later.
