'Kawhi ended the Warriors dynasty'

Post#1 » by clyde21 » Thu Jul 11, 2019 4:13 pm

why the **** is the media trying to hard to push to garbage narrative?

The path of destruction Kawhi has rendered since leaving the Spurs is a testament to his talent—and power. He ended the Warriors dynasty as we know it, folded the current iteration of the Thunder...

no, no he didn't.

1. we don't know if the Warriors' dynasty is over

2. if it is, it's because of injuries/Durant leaving, not because of Kawhi

3. Kawhi is starting to become the most overrated player of this generation, and it seems like its happened overnight

You seem upset today. He certainly ended their dynasty. Warriors were so scared of him they tried to force durant back leading to him tearing his Achilles. This also cemented durant leaving.

Kawhi and overrated doesn’t belong in the same sentence, Clyde.

They need something to talk about.

In our daily jobs, we do some form of work everyday, even when it's low season. We have to.

So does the media. These employed people have to write something daily, even in the off-season. Otherwise they'll be unemployed.

Additionally, to be a writer you've gotta have a certain 'oomph' to your style, otherwise others will overtake you. It's super competitive. So we get sentences like "Kawhi...path of destruction...he ended the Warriors dynasty."

Basically, sometimes the product in low season isn't the greatest.
Truth is on the side of the oppressed.

The media has a way of taking a grain of truth and turning it into a mountain. Toronto won because they had a deeper, healthier team. The Warriors will be right back in the championship mix next season when Klay gets back. They'd be the champs right now if Klay never got hurt. They still have the core pieces that won them 73 games and now you add DLo. Crazy that people are writing them off.

It's weird, I feel like Kawhi has been perpetually overrated his whole career, but then he goes and lives up to the hype. I agree he's getting too much credit, but a healthy, locked-in Kawhi might be the best player in the game.

I agree. I mean had the Warriors been healthy we know they would have won. In reality, injuries ended their dynasty. And I'm tired of the media acting like Kawhi was a one man wrecking crew. The Raptors were a great TEAM and had a great cast around him, including multiple former all-stars and another player who was MIP and likely will be a perennial all-star going forward. Same nonsense as saying Kawhi ended Miami's dynasty. No he didn't. The SPURS did. LeBron leaving did. Kawhi played a role on our team, but he was not the best player on the 2014 squad at all. Media narratives change due to recent history though.

Klay's BEST projection is late March I'm pretty sure. Not sure why anyone would think he will be back next year. Then you have to factor in how long it will take to be 100% condition wise etc. Almost certain they rest him all year to be ready for 2021.

Not only that OP, ESPN has begun pushing a, “Kawhi has ended the decades long Lakers dominance in LA by signing with the Clippers” narrative as well. They even went as far to say that LA is now a Clippers town.

He didn't end the "Heat dynasty" either. The Heat only made the Finals that year because they played in the East. The whole team was on old tired legs. The defense was hard to watch. LeBron ended it when he left. Plus it was the Spurs team that beat them. Their whole team was red hot. They make it seem like Kawhi dropped 70 on them every game.

Dude really? So two of their best players being injured had no part in it?

Yeah, it's a bit much. I mean, absolute congratulations to the Raptors and Kawhi for the title - they earned it. All you can do is play whoever is in front of you, and they played very well. So, no question of "deserving" the championship or anything like that.

However, nothing that KD and the W's have done this offseason had anything to do with losing to the Raps. Kawhi and the Raptors are completely inconsequential as far as the state of the W's is concerned (other than the injuries happening during that series). And, as noted, the W's are still around. They still have Steph, and Klay, and Draymond. They've grabbed a pretty decent replacement for KD (no, not as good as KD, of course, but still a very good player). W's aren't going anywhere and will continue to compete for titles for at least the next several years. So the entire premise that the dynasty is over is off to begin with (unless folks have a very narrow definition of dynasty that would exclude a franchise as soon as they fail to win a title).

So, kudos to Kawhi and the Raptors for winning the title. Not an easy thing to do. But that's as far as it goes.

I don't think he ended their dynasty but he definitely isn't overrated.

Considering he's a late bloomer and came into the league as purely a defensive player, he's finally getting the recognition he deserves... This coming from a Toronto fan that is quite upset that he left.

He's won 2 championship, has 2 finals MVPs and DPOYs, and he's only entering his prime now at 28.

He's made a HUGE jump offensively from his 2017 season to today. That on top of still being one of the best defenders. He's also proven to be a killer and being able to lead a team - something people questioned from his days in San Antonio. People don't put enough value in defense unless the player is also a top offensive player, and he's now proven that he is.

He's polished on both ends now and being beside another outstanding 2-way wing player will be quite a sight to see.

I really don’t want to dislike Kawhi but people on this board have been making it so hard not to lately.

We all know that it was injuries that ended their run. I don't think many people believe that the Raptors beat a healthy Warriors.

It may not even be about Durant's injury but Klay's injury.

I agree with your 3rd point. Seems like a lot of people in the media were anxious to crown him. I don't mind it per se, but there's a lot of hyperbole out there.
