What happened to Morey's Analytics?

When I think of Morey, I think more of star hunting than analytics. Definitely likes putting all his eggs in a couple of baskets for better or worse. Of course analytics are a big part of his MO, but ImO secondary.

Yes he's always been very clear that in basketball you win by acquiring transcendent talents and then trying to formulate a wise approach using them.

It will be interesting to see how that goes with Westbrook. The issue with him has never been that he has to play in such a problematic way, but that he wouldn't change. Were I Morey I wouldn't have acquired him unless I'd had a discussion with him where he agree to be willing to try different things.

New owner don't care about your fancy schmancy analytics. Only number he cares about is the bottom line, and Westbrook sells way better than CP3.

Analytics is for finding the next young Parsons, Capela, including a rookie Harden. That's for turning garbage into gold.

When a superstar becomes available, Morey throws everything out of the window.

What’s to analyze? Likely *zero* other offers to trade CP3 and get a “win now” package. Morey took what he could get and Presti drove up the price using Miami.

It happens. Houston still has a chance at contention, OKC got some quality draft collateral.

Must have acknowledged the idea that averaging a triple double over an NBA season is an impressive stat, and weighted his stats on that concept over some stats based on other concepts.

Maybe another stat he took into consideration is number of years in the MVP race or MVP awards.

Looks like he expanded, diversified, re-calibrated his analytics rather than forgotten about them.

I mean turnovers per minute and other pedestrian stats are important too, but he may be now looking from wider angles too.

Kudos to Morey for the improvements in his analytics department.

Good analytic people are always looking for the next thing so who’s to say he doesn’t have something up his sleeve? I couldn’t tell you what that might be but he’s probably better at this than me.

When you get down to it Morey has ALWAYS had a giant asterisk next to his analytics. And that asterisk is actually what has made him a successful GM. Its "analytics...unless there's a star available". And if there is, Morey still knows how the NBA works, and he'll go for the star almost no matter who it is. Harden, Dwight, CP3, Westbrook, whoever. Then go back to trying to build an analytics team around those stars once he has them.

Morey is a star hunter who has always gone after stars (sometimes even past their prime). He is the same guy that signed Carmelo. Analytics don't influence his big signings.

But how is this gonna work, Mr. Morey? One guy that always wants the ball (and the rebounds) to push pace, collapse the defense, and either chuck or find teammates... and another that always wants the ball to iso, drive or shoot stepbacks?

Is Harden really gonna start to spot up again, going back to his OKC days? I don't believe it, and that's the only way this works, because Westbrook sure isn't gonna have any value standing on the wing.
