Lyles to the Spurs. I'd say it's a good fit for him but he doesn't like to practice that much and I'm guessing Pop does.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Probably the perfect situation. It sucks he went scorched earth when he left because I would have loved to have him back.

We still have above average continuity in the league even though we will have 2 new starters and one of our most important backups is gone.

Possibly 3 new starters, but point is still the same. I think there will be a small learning curve, but just like we saw midseason last year with adding Korver .... guys who can shoot, simply fit in anywhere, anytime, (plus Q's systems created good shots) so I'm not worried about Offense. It's the 2nd unit D that will having the biggest changes.

Yeah, I still remember that time when everyone wanted to trade Favors so that Lyles could start, and then Favors got hurt. Lyles became the starter and Utah's spacing was so much better like everyone said it would be, and the Jazz went on to win it all. That was awesome.

Oh, wait, I think I misremembered. Lyles sucks and the Jazz sucked, even though spacing. Yep.

As for the perfect situation on the spurs, I give Pops 3 months max before he dumps Lyles for a 2026 2nd rounder.

Yeah, clearly Favors/Gobert at the 4 and 5 was the answer the whole time. I'm glad the Jazz decided to stick with it instead of buying into the whole spacing the floor concept. Could you imagine if the decided to go the spacing route instead?

The whole point of the spacing argument is to have a starting quality stretch 4. Favors is so good as an individual player that you can't just throw any player in there as a stretch 4 and say we're better. You have to actually have a good, starting quality 4. That was never Lyles and it was never Crowder (and I don't think Portis and Mitotic were either).

Bojan is good enough to be that guy. It's a big step back in defense from the back up C spot in the loss of Favors, but the upgrade in offense far outweighs the loss in defense.

We weren't winning with our defense. Simple as that. We tried for years to win with defense and keep our guys, but it didn't work. It was time to move on to offense.

Last year it was Crowder...which demonstrates how important spacing is. Crowder is not a good player and not close to as good as Favs in vacuum. But we were significantly better with him at the 4.

Crowder did the things we needed, he was just bad or mediocre at them.

You're absolutely right. The Jazz were a better team with Crowder on the floor. But he just wasn't good or consistent. Solid 20 minutes off the bench guy, but we had to use him beyond that. He wasn't good enough to be a starter, and play against them in the 4th, and he certainly wasn't good enough to replace Favors even though Favors only played token 4 minutes.

I'm still a little worried defensively about the depth of our 4 spot, but offensively our first 7 guys look great. Snyder's offense he runs should look so good now that we have players that can score and have space to operate from. His offense he runs could finally reach its potential.

Every time we've put in a 4 with the starters who isn't terrible (Crowder, Johnson), the Jazz have been dominant. Every time we've put in a 4 that IS terrible (Lyles, Diaw) we've been the same as with Favors.

Bojan might be the first guy who is actually good. Think he's overrated in general though...

Except he's not a 4. He's closer to a 2 than a 4. Something confirmed by Pacer announcers/radio personalities, when asked.

6''8" , 216lbs, without great length, and just average jumping ability.

I like his signing a ton, and think he's a difference maker, but he's still not a 4.

He played with Turner (C) & Young (PF), or Sabonis (PF/C) and Young (PF), nearly all the time. He played the 4 with Sabonis at the 5 for only 194 minutes. I don't see another line-up where he played that spot in the 5-Man Combinations listed here:

He's going to play with Ingles and Royce at the forward spots. If it makes you feel better to call them the 4, be my guest. It doesn't actually matter. We're talking about the same thing.

We switch 1-4. It doesn’t matter. We’re playing Conley and Donovan as the only smaller dudes. But even those guys will get switched onto the “PF” at times. Royce, Ingles, Green, and Bojan will all take the PF to start the defensive possession. But teams are going to try and switch Donovan or Conley onto a bigger PF anyways. I just think the whole concern about the PF spot is a non issue. I hope teams want to post up on us. I’ll trade that for a Bojan and I goes corner three all day long.

I'd really like the Jazz to take a chance on Bender.

Former no4 draft pick Dragan Bender has a verbal commitment for a multiyear deal with EuroLeague champions CSKA Moscow and will take it unless there’s an interesting NBA offer for him in the 11th hour, according to Eurohoops sources.
