Really, what's your comparison of his shooting mechanics?

He could have the shooting mechanics of Ray Allen but that doesn’t mean he will play like him on the offensive end. I suppose his shooting mechanics are similar but I just don’t think that really means much in the long run.

Nbadraft.net has an a somewhat accurate comp of Robert Horry.

6’8-6’9 pf/sf that is known more for an outside shot, defense, and crashing boards.

Just reading they compared Thompson to Marco Belinelli.

Yeah, I’m not saying nbadraft.net is the end all be all on comparisons. I’m saying the skill set makes more sense than saying he’s Klay Thompson.

I didn't say he was Klay Thompson, his movements and shot resemble Thompson's. Obviously Thompson became one of the best shooters of all time and to say a 12 ppg college player is going to as good as him is a stretch.

If you watch Klay's and Chuma's offensive highlights back to back you can see a lot of similarities. They both even hold the hand up on the follow through among other things. Maybe it's a good sign that Chuma can improve his shooting.

This thread went off the rails a little bit.

Klay Thompson was a somewhat spindly 205 lb SG when he was drafted. He was a pure perimeter player at Washington State. They had him running pick and rolls and running off screens for catch and shoot opportunities.

Chuma Okeke is a similar height and his shot form might look somewhat similar to Klay's, but has a totally different body type, played a totally different position and has a totally different style of play.

I personally think Okeke is definitely a natural 4 who may be able to play some 3. Don't see the high end ball handling chops to make him a full time perimeter player. He's certainly not a 2 in any way offensively.

There is a lot of footage of him handling the ball in high school and he played SG.

I was lurking on one of the Auburn fan forums and one guy was comparing him to Kawhi. lol

I don't want to argue with you about this too much, but citing "he handled the ball in high school" when there's two full seasons worth of evidence against better competition in college that says his ball handling is not good enough to be a full time perimeter player at the next step up in competition which is the NBA.

It's like... what are we putting more stock into here? High school tape from 3-4 years ago or college tape from 3-4 months ago?

And you mentioned Kawhi...

While neither total is particularly high compared to the amount of time he's played SF, Leonard has played double the amount of minutes in his career at PF than he has at SG.

I’ll backup basketballrob in that Okekes shooting form does resemble that of Klay Thompson. His 39% 3pt percentage in two years at Auburn is also similar to that of Thompson’s college 3pt shooting percentage.

This is an interesting conversation. In some of okekes older footage he was slimmer, prob in the 210lb range, he seemed particularly bouncy at that weight. I wonder what his ideal playing weight is and how that relates to his ideal position.

Horry's girlfriend was my girlfriends roommate. He was #2 in shot blocks in the SEC his last year, behind Shaq. used to be some great games at the rec center with him, Sprewell, James Robinson, Jason Caffey, Melvin Cheatum. They would come out and mix up with regular students in pickup ball.

what about a Bruce Bowen/Covington/Otto type of role? none of them really known for ball handling, known for shooting the 3 and defense.

I agree with all those comparisons actually. Maybe more Otto than crazy elite defense like RoCo and BB. Obviously it would be awesome if he brought that level of defense, but those guys are special.

If Summer League is any indication of the kind of player NAW can be during the regular season... this FO will have failed at making an easy decision in exchange for draft bias.

That's insane lol this guy was the 16th pick in the draft who was projected to go lower than that. If his floor was Danny Green/Horry then he might end up being a hall of famer.

I don’t care if Fultz ends up having a HoF career for us. If NAW is as good as he looks, the front office is stupid for not picking him up. A plays a position of need, we signed Aminu anyway, and he’s healthy...
