He does shoot air balls but I'm a little confused. He often hits alot of the front of the rim. Not just a graze. Just like when he misses FTs. And he misses straight front of the rim. So idk what you are getting at with him not being able to fix it. But w/e nothing surprises me here.MuckyFingers wrote:An easier shot for him to develop is a pull-up, mid-range jumper. He just doesn’t have a smooth release and most of his misses from 3 are either airballs or barely graze the rim. They’re not close. Yeah, teams will always play five or six feet off him. So develop an 18-footer and the problem’s solved. The Let It Fly philosophy is fool’s gold for Giannis.

Giannis was getting pretty good at the left wing 3 by the playoffs. If he can start hitting that with regularity, then he'll get closeouts. If he gets closeouts, then he can attack with a defender behind him. Next step is a midrange pullup/pass game.
If the defense has to deal with that decision tree, he's basically unstoppable. Then it will be hack-a-Giannis all over the court.

Giannis needs to get better at a whole bunch of things which is a scary thought for the rest of the league.
Actually curious to know what he's fixated on this offseason. Would assume he's working closely with Ben Sullivan.

He should study Dirk's shot from outside.

I have no basis for this but I wonder if his huge hands hurt his shooting touch. For us mere mortals it must be the equivalent of trying to shoot reliably with a tennis ball.

Giannis improving his FT shooting to 80ish% would be much more effective for changing how teams guard him as it would change just how physical opposing players would choose to play him
(also it's not like Toronto came up with a formula that allready hasnt been tried to death)

30% will be enough to be forced to guard him on the perimeter. He just needs to be stubborn enough to bomb away from 3 if left unguarded even if he missed consecutive shots.

He didn't take every wide open 3. So no, he hasn't reached that step yet.

Giannis shooting 30% from 3 is fantasy unless he completely changes his form. Stop wasting time with the 3; his FT % is WAY more important to the team, so he needs to focus on that. For that matter, same with Bledsoe. Some guys will never be adequate long-range shooters, so they need to stop trying to fit square pegs into round holes.
I agree FT is the much bigger concern.
However he DID shoot +30% from 3 over the 2nd half of the season and the POs. Giannis shooting +30% from 3 ISN'T a fantasy. We've seen it..... It just didnt change the way teams defended him one lil bit.
Giannis shooting 30-35% from 3 is better for the opposing team then Giannis shooting 70% at the rim if they start closing out

Giannis could shoot 12 open 3pters every game and it still wouldn't change the way hes defended one bit if hes only making 4 of then. The d will take that all day and now other 3 point shooters arent getting open looks from the d collapsing and Giannis isnt putting the other team in could trouble.... But hey at least Giannis is making 4 3s a gameLuessiT wrote:RRyder823 wrote:He was hitting them at that clip and exceeding it in January and Febuary and in the POs..... Unless Giannis starts shooting open 3s at a very good to elite level defenses will still play him the same

A good post game could help too when everything else isn't working. We've seen flashes of his good footwork in the paint and a bit of a hook shot.

History shows there’s at least one (probably more) unsigned player(s) who will make a meaningful impact for a playoff team(s). Be cool if we got him/them.

No the D won't take a guy making 1ppp without any effort put into offense and the transition defense set. Thinking this is silly. Very silly.

Wouldn't be too surprising for Giannis to start regularly taking wide open pull ups from the top. As you said, he's not far from making that an ok choice in the half court.
But I still don't think it should change how teams defend him. It would for some, and it would make our half court offense better, but what would *really* make our offense better would be if teams started playing up on him or going over screens, which would be insane. Now Giannis is downhill and you're rotating.

The smaller the ball, the easier it is to shoot accurately.

Well it's a worse scoring rate then they're currently giving up and then they also dont have to worry about Giannis getting an offensive rebound or getting their guys in foul trouble so........LuessiT wrote:RRyder823 wrote:Giannis could shoot 12 open 3pters every game and it still wouldn't change the way hes defended one bit if hes only making 4 of then. Also, Lopez been shooting 3's reasonable for a few years now. I agree. Giannis should work on FT's and mid range, system be damned.MuckyFingers wrote:ReasonablySober wrote:Brook Lopez.

For a humble venmo offering I may be tempted to gaze into the flames...
Last year we obviously hit a roster value home run signing Connaughton on August 1st. Young veteran fresh off his rookie contract. Couple dudes could fit that description this summer, maybe Jarrel Martin or Tyler Dorsey. Diallo perhaps.
We saw guys like Danuel House and Alphonso McKinnie come out of nowhere to stem the injury tide/play rotation minutes on title contending teams. I only watched Bucks summer league so I’m not as versed on the new crop of undrafted guys, but Michael Qualls of the Herd could surprise some people if he ever gets a chance. I’m also partial to the Aussie Mitch Creek.
Then there are the steady, established veterans. Still like Shelvin Mack, Lance Thomas. Justin Holiday. Maybe Trey Burke.
There will be a few from the last of this picked through crop who will make their team glad of them.

Tyler Dorsey would be good in Frazier’s old role
