Re: Around the League
I reckon we'll be in a dogfight with the Raps for 6th in the East.
If the team stays healthy, the sophomores make a definite step up, the rookie(s) show promise in spot minutes, and maybe if Ed can pull off a shrewd move to unload deadweight(s) before trade deadline, then the homer in me could see us fighting for homecourt.

They were 17-5 without Kawhi in the regular season.
Sure, he carried them in a lot of playoff games, but they know how to win regular season games. Even if you assume a few players will age, Siakam's development will at least come close to offsetting that. I seriously doubt they fall out of the playoffs next season.

I read somewhere they went 13-0 vs teams under .500 with Kawhi not playing. And 4-5 in the others.

You extrapolate that, and you can easily see them making the playoffs with how bad the East is. The East just got more top heavy and everyone either getting slightly better or worse.
We can fit into that 6th seed battle I think, instead of having to fight it out with CHA and Miami again.

Was about to reply the same. A team that takes care of business against bad teams and splits against good ones is a playoff team, though not a contender. That sounds right to me.

Marcus Morris situation looks weird.

Yeah. I'm guessing that he's thinking better to get a higher one year deal and hit the weaker 2020 free agent market. The only problems I see with that are that he is backing out on a deal he committed to and the possibility that being on the Knicks mess of a roster could hurt his value.
Can't blame the guy for trying to get the most money after getting screwed by Phoenix.

Weird thing in the Marcus Morris situation is WTF is up with Reggie Bullock?
He's getting his deal reworked which opens up the space...why rework your deal?

He hadn't signed it yet and had medical red flags. In other words, he had to.

He had some undisclosed neck strain and foot issues that wasn't found until after the contract was given.

There are potential ripple effects to Morris backing out. San Antonio participated in a 3 way trade with Brooklyn and Washington with Carroll going to the Spurs, and Bertans going to Washington. This move freed up money and an opening at PF for the Spurs to sign Morris.
Who knows if that move was specifically made as a precursor to signing Morris, but it sure looks like it played a big role in it.

More than a strain. He had disc surgery.

Yeah I saw that after I posted my comment. Brutal and no wonder the Knicks basically backed out to redraw. He might not even make training camp let alone the season opener. They basically just did the guy a favor at this point.

Right, can't blame the Knicks. I wish Reggie well. He always seemed like good guy and team player. Good luck with the recovery.

Anyone have the displeasure of seeing Drummonds new instagram post? He's shooting 3s again and the caption is "wOrK oN yOuR pOsT mOvEs BrO"
He has to be the most infuriating player. I'm sure I was optimistic when this stuff was popping up last year, but I'm not falling for it again. Please trade him.

Yeah...that's discouraging. Maybe work on defense and actually having some sort of consistent offensive game instead.

Just one more year of him. Though Gores probably will max him out over five when he opts out this off-season.

I’d agree, only thing that gives me pause is the number of 2 year deals we’ve accumulated.
