So why complain when they looked bad? Cant say tank for Zion and pull Kev and THJ in the same sentence. This year I don't expect Kev to get the nod to start over Morris.
So what did we need a coach for at all last year?
i was under the impression that fiz was a developmental coach.
i was hoping he'd be quick with his leash, especially with the young guys. preach defense, and an offense that would be used for future years.
if given a short leash, the tank would've been fine.
I think the Knicks FO and Fiz had several issues hindering their approach towards developing these guys:
1) They young guys did not have NBA level talent to learn from or push them for playing time
2) With such little talent around the young guys, each of them were asked to play a bigger offensive role without anything to help them out. DSJ is a creator and slasher but had no shooters and few finishers around him when on the floor. It's hard to evaluate these guys when LFT, Vonleh, etc. were playing big minutes and weren't even being guarded outside of the paint. We need to see how these guys look when DSJ actually has guys to pass to when he draws the defense in. We need to see if Knox's drives look better when the defense isn't sagging the paint.
I truly believe that this year is going to be a lot different than last year for the young guys. I don't think Fiz or the FO want any young guy to have a season like Knox did last year. I think they way they brought Mitch and Trier along is how they prefer to approach development. Small baby steps.
