Wizards Name Tommy Sheppard Permanent General Manager

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Jul 20, 2019 3:30 am

Tommy Sheppard will be the next general manager for the Washington Wizards, league sources told Candace Buckner of The Washington Post.

Sheppard had been operating on an interim basis since Ernie Grunfeld was fired in early April. Sheppard has been with the team for close to 20 years.

Sheppard will be officially unveiled on Monday.

Makes you wonder if there was even the slightest iota of legitimacy to the Masai rumors. I mean, the story changed from the wiz potentially luring in a big front office fish almost immediately after game 6 of the finals to them hiring internally.. The interim guy? You'd think theyd want someone who doesn't stink of the wizards mediocrity the past 20 years.

Pretty fair point. That Grif and the Pels did so well only makes the Wiz look worse

Not sure if Grif is doing that great a job for the Pels.

He traded for Lonzo and Ingram, two players that will be seriously overpaid (essentially capping them out already) and reducing their value immediately.

Then he does a bunch of short term win-now signings like Reddick and Favors, while keeping Jrue (who has very good trade value right now for a young piece or draft pick). They 'might' make the playoffs over the next two years, but will never go that deep.

The focus should be to try and add some young pieces to Zion, THEN make moves like this.

They made this EXACT same mistake when they got AD, and also when they drafted Chris Paul too. They immediately signed or traded for veterans to put around their one core young piece.

As their young franchise player got better, the rest of the team got worse.

Grif is only thinking of himself and trying to win EOY. Make a big impact in the win category, then ride that wave to his next gig.
