Still upsets me we dealt Kelenic. Cano and Diaz have been absolute failures thus far. Could’ve build around Kelenic, Conforto, Alonso, McNeil, and others..NYKnickerbocker wrote:1 Ronny Mauricio SS

Rhame looked good out of the BP Friday night. If the BP can turn around, maybe a WC spot isn't too far fetched. Everything has to start coming together soon. And we can't be losing too many of this one-run extra inning heart breakers.

Man offensively we got a solid core. Pete, Jeff, conforto, Rosario and ima assume nimmo back ruined his season.
And we had to sabotage it be acquiring a washed 2b

The question is what do we do for damage control? What are our options? We'd probably still have to take some garbage back plus give up a prized prospect PLUS eat more of Cano's contract.

Re: Official 2019 Mets Thread, II, p. 337
again...
we have a LF that should be playing 1B
we have a CF that should be playing LF
we have a RF that should be playing 2B
we have a 2B that should be DH'ing
we have a SS that should be playing CF
we have a catcher that not one of our main pitching wants to throw too.
who built this roster???
They absolutely need to trade Noah before the deadline. Right now almost every team is in the playoff hunt and a few of the world series contenders are looking for an ACE and the mets have the only one on the market. It will hurt to trade Noah but we should be able to get a kings ransom for a super talented pitcher that really has been underwhelming in his career.
This needs to be the move. Frazier, Vargas, Wheeler trades wont change the footprint of this team.
I personally would trade Noah and Conforto. I think those would be two moves that would start to change the footprint of the team. Move Rosario into CF and treat him like a Byron Buxton type player. Next year move Cano to 3B and move Mcneil full time to 2B where he belongs.

is it really? nitpicking a team that has the 2nd worst record only behind the tanking marlins?
the team keeps regurgitating the same roster with small changes. They should Diaz would ultimately fix all the bullpen issues because we have a true closer. We signed Lowrie who hasn't played but imagine this if Lowrie was healthy we probably would have had Alonso in the minors with Todd Frazier playing 1B. It was due to an injury that the glut was covered up.
We have never went out and got a true CF and keep banking on Lagares to "figure it out". Then our backup plan is to have conforto or nimmo who are corner OF's play CF.
Up the middle defense is huge and we have Conforto in CF, Ramos at C, and Rosario and Cano (probably the weakest middle INF in the majors. That is the worst up the middle defense in the league.
THe only two guys not playing out of position currently are Alonso and Frazier...that is unacceptable!

No, it wasn't nitpicking. That's why I used that Spinal Tap scene. I was being sarcastic. Of course, you're right. The Cano trade really messed us up. Signing LaMahieu instead of Lowrie would've made a big difference too but that was just a case of bad luck and 20/20 hindsight. I still believe in the young core. The pitching has been better lately. The Giants have some very good pitching.
It woudn't surprise if this team either fully collapse or goes on a tear. Agree?

they will do what they normally do...win enough games to get in the mid 70's in terms of win where they always land. They will have enough solid performances where the front office and ownership will believe they just need to make a couple small moves to move the needle and get better production form areas they are struggle.
Rinse and repeat.
Lets be honest they aren't going to be Degrom and Noah 100+ Millions so lets be proactive and get a haul for Noah now. They would be blowing up what exactly?
The building blocks are Alonso, McNeil, and Degrom (I might even through Diaz in there because he doesn't need to be paid for a while). Other than that everyone should be considered moveable for better fitting pieces.

Thor probably would take something like Florial + Garcia + another solid prospect. Even then I think a team like the twins/padres/astros can beat a yankees offer because Florial isn't trending up as a prospect.
Garcia is a really nice piece though but I don't think he can be considered the main piece.

Re: Official 2019 Mets Thread, II, p. 337
the mets would be silly to not listen and seriously consider offers on Noah and Diaz. Its a sellers market because so many teams are wrapped up in the WC chase. Now is the time to strike as you can pin 3 to 5 teams against each other trying to land a top of line ace and a big time closer.
we need to be proactive here...don't use the stupid excuse to wait until the offseason to get every team involved. That is not effective because you know what also is available in the offseason...free agents. Teams will not be able to justify trading major pieces + having to sign these guys longterm rather then just signing FA's.
You have the Yankees, Astros, Brewers, Red Sox, Twins..ect all looking for front line pitching and closing. The only big pitcher currently on the market is Marcus Stroman (and he doesn't have the control our pitchers do).
You can really play the astros/yanks/red sox/twins all against each other and land franchise changing packages in return for these guys.
But knowing the mets they will stand pat...make small deals like wheeler/vargas deals that will acquire a team 9th or 10th best prospect in the organization and it moves no needles.
Make a deal to shake this team up please! Now is the time to strike and get a huge return as these teams think they are one major piece away from a WS.

rosenthal saying mets thinking about trading noah and resigning wheeler. Now that would be smart IMO.
Wheeler you probably can get on a fairly reasonable deal and then you can get 3-4 major young pieces for Noah.
Rather than trading Wheeler for a non difference making prospect.
