Randal is a very high reward / low risk signing

he could easily develop into an EC all star level talent
if not he's short term

there isnt a negative to his signing

perhaps you dont like his game but you should root for him to succeed and thrive
perhaps you think any player signed over the average salary is a bad signing, then you need to deal with reality
perhaps you think any player who plays for the knicks is a bust. well then save us all the negativity

It is easier to be voted allstar as a knick bec of how huge and thirsty the fanbase is.

Randle has the mental fortitude and work ethic to become a good player.... maybe great

Eddie Curry just liked eating too much to ever be successful as an athlete.

Pretty amazing how cheaply we were able to get a randle when the rest of the league is maxing out mediocre players

Randle not traded for multiple first round picks, shorter contract length once a Knick, Randle seems to actually like basketball, pictures of Randle getting into shape actually appear like he got in shape

The difference between what Randle looked like coming into the league to now is quite staggering. He apparently had a penchant to be lazy all throughout high school and college but then shifted his focus once he got hurt in his rookie year. If he develops a reliable 3 he's going to be an All-Star in the East.

You’re one of the most knowledgeable posters on here, so I’ll ask...

What similarities do you see? Sure looks like a ridiculous reach to me.

Yeah you are right. It is a bit of a reach. The point is we got another one dimensional front court player who put up numbers on a losing team. But yeah obviously Randle is at the very least not give up on basketball

You have to admit though, Curry could probably pound away those burgers faster than Randle can.

It's really still an apples to oranges comparison.

Curry was an indifferent defender. Randle has had the reputation. And there the comparison ends. Randle is a much more versatile offensive player, which he should be, as he's more a PF, so he should be. Edge Curry as pure lost post scorer, but Randle has some ability in the post, plus Randle can put the ball on the floor and pass like Curry never could. Randle can also function as a small ball 5, so he can play two positions, which helps, while Curry was strictly a C.
Finally, Curry was acquired in a trade, which cost 2 first rounders, while Randle was a FA.

A better comparison is Amare. Also a FA. Also a PF. Also not the best defender. Amare a better post player and probably a better jump shooter, but that's debatable. I'd give Randle the edge over Amare as a passer. Still different players, as Amare was primarily a P&R finisher and post player, and amazing at the first and pretty good at the 2nd, if not exactly a traditional post up big. More like post and face and blow by defenders.

Didn't Curry have a heart issue, and that was one of the reasons Chicago didn't want to keep him? Not seeing the correlation here.
