What similarities do you see? Sure looks like a ridiculous reach to me.

Yeah you are right. It is a bit of a reach. The point is we got another one dimensional front court player who put up numbers on a losing team. But yeah obviously Randle is at the very least not give up on basketball

It's really still an apples to oranges comparison.

Curry was an indifferent defender. Randle has had the reputation. And there the comparison ends. Randle is a much more versatile offensive player, which he should be, as he's more a PF, so he should be. Edge Curry as pure lost post scorer, but Randle has some ability in the post, plus Randle can put the ball on the floor and pass like Curry never could. Randle can also function as a small ball 5, so he can play two positions, which helps, while Curry was strictly a C.
Finally, Curry was acquired in a trade, which cost 2 first rounders, while Randle was a FA.

A better comparison is Amare. Also a FA. Also a PF. Also not the best defender. Amare a better post player and probably a better jump shooter, but that's debatable. I'd give Randle the edge over Amare as a passer. Still different players, as Amare was primarily a P&R finisher and post player, and amazing at the first and pretty good at the 2nd, if not exactly a traditional post up big. More like post and face and blow by defenders.

The big difference between Randle and Amare or Eddy is that Randle probably has 10 good years ahead of him on a team-friendly contract.

This one is easy. Jerome James averaged 12.5 ppg during playoffs one year. Randle never played post season.

Similarity: The same season the Knicks got James, they drafted Frye and Lee, s&t Curry and got Antonio Davis essentially making him unplayable. The same season Knicks got Randle, they signed Portis and Gibson and had a second year player in Mitchell Robinson at the same spot.

Conclusion?

Jerome James is a playoff veteran and Julius Randle is not.

His pick and pop was legend. I still am upset with Isaiah for trading him. He had great chemistry with Marbury

Interesting topic that could keep us going for 8-10 weeks more: Without being able to choose from a full Max player around the league, would you be able to find two more complementary bigs (4s and 5s only) than Randle & Robinson?

I believe the answer is no but haven't gone through all the combos. They sort of each do what the other doesn't.

OJ & Mo-Ro.

Supriced about how people are downplaying Randle's defense. Randle is a solid defender. He can defend pick and roll very well. Where he lacks sometimes is paint defense because of his lack of hight when he plays the 5. But when Randle was with the Lakers he was one of the best defenders on that team.

Randle isn't a C thats why and with a C like Robinson who can block everything, this is perfect pairing for Randle. He can guard perimiter better than paint protection
