It's absolute malpractice. They can't trade Votto, so they want to win with Votto. Only, they don't have the resources to win with Votto, so they'll be mediocre with him instead while crippling their future.

That's who we should have pounced on to trade Marcus if they were interested. Maybe we didn't like Trammell ;)

Guessing that they wanted their True Ace, which Bauer was last year and Stroman has never risen to be. Which is nice and all, but unless they're upping their payroll massively, they have a solid-to-good rotation for next season, Senzel and Suarez, and sweet **** all else. After throwing most of their chips in on a one-year run this year, they're doubling down by throwing the rest in on a one-year run next year. And while Sonny Gray may recoup value if he doesn't turn into a pumpkin again, they'll basically have nothing else to show for it if they fail to make the playoffs in 2020.

Maybe stroman trade depressed the trade market but I like what jays got for stro more than the prospects being exchanged bauer (not much of a trammel fan - too much cameron maybin/poor man's byron buxton vibes).

How the hell did Indians do so well, all they give up is Bauer, get 2 x 20 hr hitters, one that's 23, and Logan as a prospect

Circumstance, I guess. You have the thirsty Reds, and you have a team in SD that must feel that Trammell is well-suited to patrolling the enormous space that is their centerfield. Allen's a pretty comparable prospect to Anthony Kay; Franny Reyes is a thumper of baseballs, but has one of the worst swinging strike rates in the league, and may be too beefy for the OF long-term (and 1B is tied up forever thanks to the Hosmer deal) so presumably they feel that they're selling high on him and buying low of Trammell.

Still don't make sense, how come we didn't get that "Circumstance."

They got a pending free agent in puig, a youngish either feast or famine outfielder (like a hernandes or Girchuk, though i guess they are better defensively), Allen who is rated in the top 100 in prospect- #98 (7th on San Diego deep farm team - So slightly better than kay, but i guess a similar like pitcher).

Plus Scott Moss (Ranked #12 in mlb pipeline for Reds prospect) and Lottery ticket Nova.

Or if say Padres weren't involved, Cleveland could have got at the very least, Puig, Trammell, and Scott Moss for Bauer.

On a side note, Edward Olivarer is starting to look pretty good (Former jay signing traded for Yangervis Solarte ughh)

My guess is that we didn't get that circumstance because we didn't have what Cincy wanted: someone they could convince themselves was an ace that would lead them to glory. They reportedly kicked the tires on Stroman in the offseason but didn't value him at a level proportional to our ask (which probably wasn't more than they gave up here).

And unfortunately, that's often what makes trades...a team decides that they have to have a thing, accept no substitutes. Cincy deciding that they had to have a 'real ace' may have led them to overpay drastically for Bauer. The Jays' view of SWR may well have led them to take something that at least now looks like an underpay.

Is there a disconnect between the Blue Jays front office and the manager with injuries? Steve Phillips joined us this morning to discuss.

I don't understand the appeal of Instagram. The app is terrible and riddled with ads, for one, and you can't even see how long a video is, let alone skip forward/back. I guess it draws in a lot of hot girls that want to get popular without having to show their nipples, but it's worse than Twitter is pretty much every possible way.

Yeah with Rays, and Cleveland getting DH and/or 1st basebats, don't see much of market for Smaok. Maybe Yankees? But they can just plug Edwin at first if they are desperate.

Somehow, several teams are after Aaron Sanchez but I can’t see offers coming that would reflect his value if he has indeed started to turn things around. They would be looking for a bargain.
