Knicks Would Have Considered Signing Carmelo Anthony If They Signed Two Max Free Agents

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jul 31, 2019 10:02 pm

The New York Knicks would have considered bringing back Carmelo Anthony had they signed two marquee free agents this summer, league sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Anthony hasn't played in the NBA since parting ways with the Rockets in November.

Charania reports that there were conversations between Anthony's camp and Team USA Basketball about the possibility for his return during this summer's FIBA World Cup, though both sides moved on from that idea.

Executives around the league also believe that Anthony could retire with the Knicks after signing a one-day contract if no other possibilities emerge.

Could see melo filling a jabari Parker like role.
Teams feel his personality is polarizing. If he goes through g-league and stays warm where NBA eyes can see, I think there's a chance a team will need some help.

A guy like VC brought great value to Atl. HE could even be 6moy quality but again I think he may get some of the Iverson treatment personality wise.

Best of luck to melo . Nice goodwill gesture by NY.

that would destroy the purpose of signing the 2 max guys in the first place.. melo is a net negative.. why would u bring in a net -ve player into a winning situation? of course unless he was willing to come off the bench... that would b a different story.

This was a move done to screw up the Lakers by New York. Well played. Now Lakers feel the pressure to go sign Melo which would in turn make them lose or sign with New York

Without a doubt. There's no shame in that either. The Big 3 likely has the 2nd best pool of basketball talent in the country.

What's the point of this news? Does it appease the Knicks fans or something?

So as There was no Chance than any Star free agent in their sane mind would have chosen the Knicks, they never really thought about Melo?

They can always pay melo the max and look like free agency winners. They promised their fans 2 max players this offseason and they got them in randle and melo lol

Actually, it upsets most Knicks fans a whole lot.
Had we signed two superstars and then signed Melo, it would have taken the joy out of our good fortune.

It's not that Melo is a bad guy or wasn't once very good. It's that as he declined, he showed no self awareness of his decreasing efficiency. The harder it was for him to get the shot he wanted, the longer he held the ball and the more he stopped our offense. Other players, knowing he wouldn't pass, just stood around watching while defenders doubled him. His FG% plummeted along with our offense.

Had they signed kyrie, durant and kawhi to 1 year vet mins, the knicks would've been contenders with cap room...enabling them to sign melo at the max for 5 years with a no trade clause.

And they would've...

I can see him doing that if Wade and/or Kobe joined the league.

So you sign two great players then you ruin the project by signing Melo?
It is lucky they didn't get to sign those agents, so they did not ruin two careers and did not waste so much money.
Just by thinking about it the Knicks should be fined.
