People have been talking about building the future with siakim and OG. OG will be handed all the minutes he can handle this year, if he doesnt take that next step forward then it's time to realize he may just be a solid role player.

No one builds a team around a Jae crowder type of player. Fvv, siakim and OG came into the league around the same time, 2 of those players have shown drastic improvement given their opportunity and only one hasn't. That's the reality.

I hope he takes that next step.

After two seasons we shouldn't imagine "reality". He is projected to be primarily an elite lock down defender and currently he has less than two years on his resume. So, might still be way too early to give expert analysis. Year one he played 20 mins a game. Year two the same on a stacked team where he had multiple things distract from his progress and was too easily replaced. The one thing that is a concern is his offence. Like Poetl he lacks a killer instinct despite excellent defensive numbers. Nurse is going to have to green light him and see if that improves his offence. Like Danny Green he has those two point games. He should be able to be a much better and consistent contributor on offence but the point about experience and IQ is true and is a work in progress. Truth be told as a college player and in the NBA he has next to no body of work.

2 years ago he started 62 out of the 74 games he played, he was handed that opportunity and did nothing with it. Yes he's had some unfortunate circumstances with injury and personal things happen to him but siakim and van vleet both took the opportunity given to them and forced the coaches to play and trust them.

Again,

Did nothing with it?
Did you watch those 62 games?
How about the playoffs?

OG surpassed every expectation in his rookie season. He was an exceptional defender and shot the ball WAY better than anyone thought he would. Earned his starts and won the job.

2 years ago he was a rookie lol, give the kid some time to grow at least. Even pascal wasn't anything special his rookie season where he started 38/55 games he played. Not all players develop on the same timeline, some players figure it out sooner some later, like Pascal for example who broke out at age 25. Point is you have to give young players time to grow to see what they become before passing judgment on their potential imo

You are aware he’s only been in the league 2 years? And he’s only 22? Freddy and Pascal have been in the league for 3 years. Pascal is 25. At the end of his rookie season, most people would have ranked OG over Pascal. Pascal broke out in his 3rd year.

OG’s game improved quite a bit from college to his rookie year. Last season he was hindered by injuries and his father passing. He is likely going to be the best wing defender on the roster this season. As long as he continues to improve his offense each season, he is going to be a good player.

OG played exceptionally well as a 3&D role player in his rookie year. What are you even saying? He also hit a crazy clutch 3 against the Cavs in the playoffs. That was wild.

Recent ESPN article says Nurse is considering moving Pascal down to the 3. Wonder what that means for the 4. Ibaka? OG?

Fred has been in these leagues longer than OG. I can't trust a comparison like that like they were in the same draft. Ridiculous. I'd be more on Norm's case but he has shown some things as well. Nobody can truthfully say OG hasn't had his good games. He is just another inconsistent prospect with flashes of serious potential. Nothing really to hate on.

I'm fine with this.

Lowry/FVV/Lloyd
Powell/Thomas/Davis
Siakam/OG/Stanley
Ibaka/RHJ/Dewan
Gasol/Boucher/[Konate/Robinson]

If they want to move Ibaka back to the 4, then Masai is going to have to cut someone and pick up a vet C because Boucher and Hernandez aren't exactly good bench options. Nene and Noah are still available, and they won't be bad pick ups.

Return to Toronto Raptors
