Just for the record, I watch a ton of NCAA ball and I love the Badgers -- I just also am tickled by both their recruiting strategy and their on-court tactics and how well they work together against all modern convention.

Voted "Mr. Tall" by state prep writers. Has a mix tape on Youtube that's just clips of him touching the net without jumping.

Did you watch the Final 4 last year? I think you're confusing "modern convention" with the NBA's modern convention (of having skilled enough players to play fast) or the 5-10 teams that are paying future NBA players and are good at it.

I have only seen the recruiting profile and some twitter commentary but he looks pretty good. 4-star recruit that is a skilled inside/outside big man, the usual.

Chest Rockell-ass name.

Thanks for the info, man.

I once rang up Paul Grant at my jobby-job way back when. I can confirm he is, in fact, Tall.

Hahaha! So true but SMC is all Aussie. Different hemisphere of whiteness.

Incidentally, I just go to school there so I felt the need to represent but push comes to shove I'm not cheering against my Sconnie roots. On Wisconsin.

Didn't really mean to give you **** about it, St. Mary's is the one school that sticks out more than Wisconsin at times (unless you go deeper into mid majors).

Median team pace (Badger pace):

18-19: 71.1 (67.4)
17-18: 71.4 (64.8)
16-17: 71.7 (66.9)
15-16: 71.1 (66.0)
14-15: 67.0 (61.1)
13-14: 68.8 (64.8)
12-13: 68.0 (63.6)
11-12: 67.9 (60.2)
10-11: 68.8 (58.7)
09-10: 69.1 (61.2)

Last year was the fastest the Badgers have played out of any year in the last 10, and they were still 325th (of 353) in pace.

Yeah, now do the tempo of the teams that appeared in the FF/championship game or hell, most of the teams that garner top 4 seeds in the tournament.

You'll note that UNC has a niche of playing fast and Villanova played somewhat fast one of the years but otherwise teams like Michigan, Virginia, Syracuse, Texas Tech, most of Villanova's run play almost as slow. Even Kentucky has slowed it down during a lot of recent years.

The players aren't good enough so it's a race to the most efficient, slowest pace. Certain teams (Louisville with Pitino/UNC/Gonzaga) have a lot of mid-NBA talent and can play fast. Other teams like Duke and Kentucky are a bit of a mixed bag but obviously have the talent to do so.

Most of the top 50 or 100 tempos on KenPom are either very low-level mid-majors that run and chuck (because why not?) or some of teams that are loaded with NBA or near-NBA talent that can do this regularly. So the median pace is a bit skewed, for whatever that's worth.

A lot of good, "faster" teams like Purdue or MSU average a whole whopping 3 extra possessions/game. Michigan State is definitely more appealing to watch for the masses but they still can and do slow it down a lot.

If you're suggesting there's a negative correlation between pace and wins, you're the one who's going to have to show your work on that.
