It lets them choose up to a max salary given years of experience and then specific increases every year.

At least I haven't heard of teams front-loading. What they might do is that the last year of a deal wouldn't be fully guaranteed.

But players in demand get fully guaranteed deals, not partially guaranteed ones.

You can front load with a pay decrease each year. 5% raises or decreases if you dont have bird rights. 8% raises or decreases with bird rights.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Zubac's per 36 shows promise. Also remember, poor dude was with the Lakers. That org has a habit of scouting really talented players but not really developing them. Zubac played less minutes in his career than Shai and Shamet... Laker fans just started to realize last season his potential and then he got traded.

Zubac under Doc's and Co's tutelage is gonna be great. If only he took a summer to really buff out in a Giannis fashion, he would really be something special.

Plus, I feel like our FO is gonna play Zubac big minutes and pad up his stats and hype so that if we needed to trade him at the deadline Avery Bradley style, we have that option. Clippers honestly have a lot of good options available during the season for trades and acquisitions if they need it. Hoping they won't though.

this is what Spencer Hawes was supposed to do for us

you run the fast break and if it gets defended, you kick it back out to the trailer at the top of the key for 3

That's a nice deal for the Clippers.

Basically a 3year 20m deal, and can keep him for the 4th if he blows up.

A+ deal, considering all the stupid deals handed out this summer.

Guessing he will be sitting in key minutes of playoffs games.

Following in Footsteps of Gasol Brother

While Zu has yet to show elite instincts or particular skills, he'd do very well to model his game after Marc Gasol in his prime as he as a lot of similar elements in his own game.

Training for Zu

That could very well be the case as he stated in the Athletic article that he thought that postseason games were the same as regular season games before learning first-hand how that was not the case at all despite other people telling him so. It will really depend on how quickly he adapts to the new demands of his position.

The one thing that could keep him from contributing significantly in the postseason is adjusting to the speed of the game. The kid has a lot of skills both in terms of finesse and post-game, so he has a chance to be a stable anchor at the position.

Zu had a monster game against the Warriors when he was on the Lakers, getting a lot of easy dunks and the Warriors had nobody to slow him down at the time.

In the playoffs, they ran him off. He will get switched on perimeter players, where his lack of foot speed would be an issue.

Him shooting 3 is likely to be irrelevant in such games.

Ultimately the lens to view Zubac as a Clipper is that he is all upside for us, considering that we got him for free, he was a clear upgrade over Marcin Gortat last year even if he had left as a RFA, and his new contract is very team-friendly. He is a nice young center with good footwork, overall awareness, and rim protection ability, and at the very least looks to be developing some spacing ability on offense (just enough to be a credible threat is good enough for now, a little pick-and-pop action, etc.) He also seems like a really good kid and hard worker, and knows where his bread and butter is even as he works to broaden his game.

This is not to blow it out of proportion and pretend the Lakers gave us an All-Star center or anything. But we did get him at the right time, just as he was starting to develop some consistency and comfort level on the NBA floor. I really like Zubac and am pretty certain the last 2 years of his contract are going to be an even better value, its hard for me to imagine a scenario where we let him go after 3 years unless there's some external extenuating circumstance. It's not like we have any available money to bring in any sort of significant center upgrade anyway.

I think he'll get significant minutes this postseason, but situationally he may still have to sit at times due to match ups. I'm totally fine with that, we all know the type of player he is. He's not a freak of nature that can defend all 5 positions, but we wouldn't have gotten him for Mike freaking Muscala if he was! :D

What is realistic "big minutes", 24 m/g, 14 pts, 10 rebs?

If we trade Zubac (and who else?), who do we get?
