Kevin Durant on if the Warriors mishandled his calf injury: ‘Hell, no’

Post#1 » by Drygon » Wed Aug 7, 2019 9:55 pm

Read on Twitter

One of the newest members of the Brooklyn Nets, Durant hasn’t spoken publicly since his departure from the Golden State Warriors this summer. In fact, he hasn’t spoken since rupturing his right Achilles tendon in Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors.

The injury and its aftermath were heavily scrutinized and the Warriors were criticized for allowing the 10-time All-Star to return from a Grade 2 right calf strain he sustained in Golden State’s second-round series with the Houston Rockets.

“I know you didn’t come over here for nothing,” Durant says. “I’ll give you something.”

So we got straight to it. Did the Warriors mishandle the injury?

Durant slowly straightened up with a perplexed expression on his face.

“Hell, no. How can you blame [the Warriors]? Hell, no,” Durant told Yahoo Sports. “I heard the Warriors pressured me into getting back. Nobody never said a word to me during rehab as I was coming back. It was only me and [director of sports medicine and performance] Rick [Celebrini] working out every day. Right when the series started, I targeted Game 5. Hell, nah. It just happened. It’s basketball. S--- happens. Nobody was responsible for it. It was just the game. We just need to move on from that s--- because I’m going to be back playing.”

I’m really glad Durant feels this way, and also that he came out and said this.

There have been some obnoxious narratives and takes circulating around his injury on social media, RealGM, Reddit etc.

To be fair, most of the obnoxious narratives and fake news takes were on the General Board and not the Warriors' board. Most of those who actually followed the Warriors already knew what KD has confirmed.

Jesus, what a fluff piece. It was all boring softball questions. Haynes is the worst. He's literally a PR guy for NBA stars, nothing more.

Can’t wait to hear the spin from the dedicated Dubs haters on this board.

I'm so sick of all types of alarmist media these days. They are literally changing the way people view everyday life.

We need some sort of correction.

Thank you KD for saying what same heads already knew.

I actually think it's messing with people. Suicides are WAY WAY up, and a constant barrage of doomsday news sure isn't helping. Even the weather is extremist now. I think the media (mainstream and social) coverage of Trump is actually working like a recruiting film for white supremacists. I have long defended the media (games, movies, TV) as not being the cause but just a mirror ... I think we've turned a corner and now it's causing issues with society at an increasing rate.

I mainly blame Rupert Murdoch myself.

Glad to know we didn't pressure KD to play like the Spurs did for Kawhi.

Not just the dumbass white supremacists, but the Dayton killer was a socialist who loves Elizabeth Warren and the guy who shot up the Republican dudes at softball practice was a Bernie Sanders supporter.

KD might want to let his boy Perk to shut up.

Perk now just need to make a living by telling on his friends. Apparently his superstar friends didn’t tell him much either.

KD is a generational talent and I am glad I had the opportunity to watch someone that great play for my team.

That being said, I am looking forward to a season where we can (hopefully) focus on basketball and not on the drama that, at times, seemed more like a reality TV show than a basketball team.

Do you think if the Warriors won the title KD would have shown up for the parade?

No, but his injury could serve as a valid reason not too. It would certainly be reasonable that a doctor could have said "not a good idea" to be on your feet so soon after surgery.

Although my guess is that Klay would have unless the doctor absolutely insisted that he medically could not. If a doc said "not a good idea", Klay probably would say thanks, I'll wave to you from the parade!

Of course he would have. You really think he would miss a chance to feel the love of the public? It's what he lives for.

From everything that transpired with KD over the 3 seasons he was hear, this wouldn't suprise me at all. The guy is as sensitive as it gets, and I've known people that have a natural reaction to adversity to just close up shop and become introverted. I could see this being a real thing with Kevin.

Story kinda of walks the line of insinuating he blatantly cut communication off and grew distant which we already knew from the other stories about guys having families and such and then takes the weird turn of trying connect his not discussing FA with the media to his relationship with his teammates. It’s just a hack job spin on old news.

Over under one week until he stops talking to anyone on the Nets?

Return to Golden State Warriors
