Where do you guys rank Kyle Lowry?

Post#1 » by RaptorPride » Sat Aug 10, 2019 9:00 pm

The player he is right now at the point guard position?
There are very few PGs that can guard all 5 positions. Including big men like Embiid in the post when there is a switch. He is also the best if not one of the best at drawing charges in the NBA and he doesn't care who is running at him. On top of that Kyles and elite playmaker and leader who is the heart and soul of the Toronto Raptors. An underrated three-point shooter as well.

Really? I cant name ten PGs over him.

In no order:
Curry
Westbrook
Lillard
Kemba
Simmons

But then
Fox, Conley, and Trae Young are probably on a similar tier to Lowry IMO.

Back end of top 20. Some guys have better box score numbers, but few PG's have the all around game he has

Curry/Lillard/Kyrie were better last year. Lowry has a case over every other point guard. If you stress playoffs a lot, you can drop Kyrie from that list

Oh wow I thought this was overall, not PG. Easily a top 5 PG.

Top-10 PG currently.

No clue all time. Pretty long list of guys ahead of him.

Let me change my vote OP. Top 15 PG is a sham

I thought this was overall players. As a point guard

Curry
Dame
Kyrie

were better last year. I think Lowry was the best after that. Moving forward though, i suspect Simmons will be better this year and Walker too. Depending on how hard age hits, i think he'll be the 7th or 8th best pg this season

Arguments can be made for top 3 behind Curry/Dame but I feel comfortable with top 5

Curry- clearly better every season
Lillard- clearly better for the upcoming season
Paul- probably better but super duper close

Simmons- probably worse for the upcoming season but super duper close
Conley- worse but super close

Trae Young? Trae Young? The same Trae Young who might be the worst defensive player in the entire league? The same Trae Young that finished 76th out of 100 PGs in RPM last season? That’s like saying Doncic is on the same tier as LeBron and Kawhi.

I'm not a big fan of guards that can't create off the dribble and aren't dynamite from 3. Plus he doesn't have the quickest release. Top 30 for me, probably in the 22-23 range

Making these threads about Lowry on the GB is pointless. As has been discussed numerous times his value isn't captured by box score metrics or their derivatives and so you have a bunch of people opining who don't watch him play every day but look at the stats or tune in during the playoffs for the game where he inevitably goes 1-13. What's the point?

My answer: depends what type of player you need. If you need someone to carry the load then he's probably still top 15 but maybe now on the outside looking in given his age. If you just need another good player who can help your already good team win a tremendous number of games then he might be top 5.
