Pistons/Spurs
In light of extension talks surrounding DeRozan/Spurs, ill offer this idea if those talk go no where:
To Detroit
-DeMar DeRozan (1 year, $27.7 million, plus PO)
-Marco Bellineli (1 year, $5.8 million)
-DeJounte Murray (1 year, $2.3 million plus QO)
To San Antonio
-Reggie Jackson (1 year, $18.1 million)
-Tony Snell (1 year, $11.4 million plus PO)
-Langston Galloway (1 year, $7.3 million)
-2020 Detroit 1st round pick (lottery protected; 2021 Top 12 protected; 2022 Top 10 protected or 2024 and 2025 2nds)
-2021 Lakers 2nd round pick
Why?
-The Pistons make a move to be a top 4 seed in EC/win a playoff round as DeRozan can play the 3 while Doumbouya develops off bench for a year. The Pistons also get off the $12 million cap hit if Snell exercises his 2020-21 player option and Murray who is a controllable asset as an RFA next summer. DeRozan has familiarity with Casey and can carry offensive load with Griffin.
Murray/Rose/Frazier
Kenard/Belinelli/Thomas/Bowen
DeRozan/Doumbouya
Griffin/Morris/Beasley
Drummond/Maker/Wood
-The Spurs move on from DeRozan while getting a 1st and 2nd round pick to start rebuilding process if he doesn't sign an extension now. The focus becomes to re-tool in 2021 as they can deal Aldridge + Gay next summer for more picks.
Jackson/White/Mills
Walker/Snell/Forbes/Galloway
Gay/Carroll/Johnson
Lyles/Samanic/Metu
Aldridge/Poeltl

Re: Pistons/Spurs
The Spurs aren't trading Murray for a lotto-protected 1st. And they have no reason to trade DeRozan for just random filler.

Yeah, Derozan for filler and Murray for a protected first are both no's for the Spurs. And how does extension talk make it more likely they move him?

Yeah this missed by a wide margin.
Mills and DeMar for RJ, Snell, Galloway, Kennard? Probably been suggested a lot of times, but Mills/Rose/Demar/Blake/Dre seems interesting with Sekou/Morris for size.

Re: Pistons/Spurs
The players Detroit sending are garbage and on top of that you added those intense protections to draft pick. You need a pick to dump Snell alone and you're not getting either Murray or Derozan.

Re: Pistons/Spurs
DeRozan to Detroit could happen, but as others have said, this isn't it.
Jackson + Snell = matching salaries
+ pick(s)/prospect(s)
Jackson+Snell+Kennard makes some sense to me. Kennard is a pretty known quantity at this point, a decent player that can shoot and handle the ball, but probably not going to become the best player on a playoff team.

Would making the 2020 Pistons pick unprotected make more sense?

Well the OP lands the Pistons DeRozan without going into the tax. Would they be willing to go into the tax this season?
If so, it could be altered
To Spurs
-Jackson
-Galloway
-2020 1st (unprotected)
-2021 Lakers 2nd
-2024 2nd
To Pistons
-DeRozan
-Murray

I don't know if many teams are going to agree to trading unprotected picks after the changes in lottery odds.
Posting trade proposals with DDR might be more trouble than they are worth.

Murray isn't going to be included and what I proposed reduces Detroit's salary commitments, anyway (barely pulling them below the line).

Re: Pistons/Spurs
I don't like people tossing in guys like Murray, White or Walker into "DeRozan for pieces" trades. It doesn't make any sense. They would only consider moving DeRozan in order to give those guys more time, so including them in the deals doesn't work.

Re: Pistons/Spurs
I mean, if the Spurs wanna.
I can't imagine them being interested in this though. Murray's not a throw in, certainly not in how they perceive it.
Normally I'm opposed to first round pick dealing for vets, but in this case getting a young and (potentially) controllable player makes it an easy call. And if it's an easy call for me, it's probably an easy no for the Spurs.

Dejounte not getting traded... especially not for scraps
I only see 3 potential trades with Pistons for Derozan
Derozan + Belinelli for Blake Griffin
Derozan + Metu for Sekou + Jackson + Snell + 5mil(to offset waiving Belinelli and keeping Pistons under tax)
Derozan + Metu for Jackson + Snell + 2020 1st unprotected + 2022 pick swap

Re: Pistons/Spurs
If San Antonio does a trade like this, they are giving up on their near future. If they do that, they'll keep Murray unless someone makes a crazy overwhelming overpay.
If San Antonio does not want to give up on their near future; there is no way they trade Murray.

Re: Pistons/Spurs
Ok, as per OP, I admit I did underestimate Murray's value, my bad. The original post SHOULD have been :
To San Antonio
-Reggie Jackson
-Langston Galloway (*waive*)
-Tony Snell
-2020 1st round pick (Top 10 protected; 2021 Top 10 protected; 2022 Top 10 protected)
To Detroit
-DeMar DeRozan
-Patty Mills
Its essentially Jackson + Galloway + 1st for DeRozan with Snell and Mills included for positional roster balance. Assumption is Pistons make playoffs.
Rose/Mills/Frazier
Kennard/Thomas/Bowen
DeRozan/Doumbouya/FA?
Griffin/Morris/Beasley
Drummond/Maker/Wood
Jackson/Murray/White
Walker/Belinelli/Forbes
Gay/Snell/Johnson
Lyles/Carroll/Samanic/Metu
Aldridge/Poeltl/

Your depth chart aside, it's a much better trade. I wouldn't necessarily do this, since the option value of just keeping DeMar and seeing how the season is going is more important to me that locking in this deal now. But come the deadline, it might be more appealing, especially if the Spurs' young guards seem to have the fort held down. I'd be looking to turn Jackson into a starting PF, though, and that might be possible given that the Knicks should still exist then.
Credit where it's due though, I think you listened to the concerns of Spurs fans without going too far in the other direction. Well done.

This seems better. I think Detroit probably needs to throw in a prospect or two. I love Khyri Thomas, so I'd say him.
