Assume He Repeats Last Season. What Does Montrezl Harrell Get Paid Next Summer?

Post#1 » by BleedGreen1989 » Mon Aug 12, 2019 11:42 pm

After hiring Rich Paul as an agent, I’m curious what folks think will be MH’s next contract?

If he doesn't improve one lick... he's still worth 15-20 million per year at his current production/level of play. In other words, hell yes he's going to get paid. Combine this with the fact that he's worked his ass off all summer on shooting/ballhandling/passing and hasn't taken any rest... I am pretty confident he takes another leap this year. It's quite unfortunate the timing of it, but we may be forced to pay Harrell max or near max next year. I pray Rich Paul and our FO can come to a more reasonable deal like 20 mill a year tops.

I was furious when he was re-signed for just two years. I said over and over that was going to bite us in the ass later. Sure enough it looks like it will. Team would of been smarter to do anything they can to lock him up for 4 years, even if it meant paying him 8-10 a year instead of 6.

Similar contract to Julius Randle I imagine. Whether it'd be warranted is debatable (for both players).

It all depends on how he performs in the Drew League. If he puts up another outstanding performance, he'll guarantee himself a max.

Hawks and a few other teams are going to have a ton of cap space next year; and as it stands, Harrell will be a top 10 free agent. He may be the #1 PF/Center option on some GMs free agent boards. If Bruno Fernando does not show enough upside defensively, I would think the Hawks show some serious interest in pairing him with Collins.

Honestly could see 4/80 with how weak the class is next year. But could also work against him next year also

4/60 was the first thing that came to mind. I like him a lot. But bigs are pretty abundant.

Whoever gives Montrezl Harrell anywhere near the max they will certainly, undoubtedly and immediately regret it (and this is coming from a Harrell fan).

He'll get a 3-4 yr. 54 - 84m dollar deal (dependent on the length of the contact).
PM me if you can help a brotha finally get an AVI.

I think you are right in the ball park. Paul Millsap was coming off a similar season when he got 20 million a year from the Hawks in 2013. If Fernando does not show promise, I am hoping history repeats itself.

20m is absurd, he's a 12-14m guy, he isnt a starter he's an energy big and u dont pay those guys 20m. Paying any guy that money that doesn't create his own offense or dominate on the glass or defensively is terrible

What is absurd is getting 16.6, 6.5, and 1.3 blocks in just 26.3 minutes. If he were to play besides John Collins for 30 minutes a game, that would be two 18/19 and 8/9 a game bigs plus Harrells defensive hustle and shot changing ability.

The Hawks have plenty of shooters, what they need is someone willing and able to do the dirty work. He does not waste possessions either; TS% of .636 and a low turnover per 100 possessions at just 2.9. Tristian Thompson got 82 Million over five years. I think Harrell is better and he is younger.

No,, Thompson was/is an elite rebounder and a much better defender at his peak, harrell is trash defensively and a mediocre rebounder, he is a dirty work guy and thats a great asset but not at 20m

Also people thought he was just an energy guy who was get locked in the playoffs and he went on to average 20 ppg on 60%+ TS, leading Draymond Green to call him dominant. He was AWFUL on D against the Warriors, but offensively did whatever he wanted against anyone the Warriors put on him. He's working harder than anyone for us this summer. I expect him to keep growing. PER 36 of 24/9/3/2 blocks type.

Some teams have an elite rebounder; not many have a Harrell. We can revisit this next season but I think Harrell improves some more; which is what he has done every season.

Absolutely not a trash defender anymore. He became an above average defender last year and very good shot blocker overall. He's not great or anything, but its nowhere near the liability it was the previous years. Rebounding, I'll agree he's average at best.. but 9 PER 36 isn't horrid or anything, just not special. He's a hell of a lot more than a dirty work guy. He's got an unstoppable touch inside the paint, the best hands in the NBA catching lobs/inside passes, is the #2 PNR finisher in the NBA and gets key offensive rebounds regularly. He made big leaps defensively and playmaking wise last year. This guy is arguably the most efficient offensive player in the NBA. He doesn't do anything outside of his ability and what he's good at he obliterates efficiency.

It's not that he deserves it. Believe me, I'd love to pay him 12-14. With the current market, next year's weak free agency and the fact that a lot of teams have money... unfortunately he's gonna cost WAY more than that. Most players now aren't deserving of these 20+ mill years probably.

I don’t get the Capela comparisons. Harrell is much better offensively and much worse defensively.
