Kyle Lowry Withdraws From Team USA For 2019 World Cup

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Aug 12, 2019 9:27 pm

Kyle Lowry has announced on Instagram he has withdrawn from Team USA for the 2019 World Cup.

Lowry underwent surgery on his injured thumb this offseason, but he had hoped to be cleared to play in the tournament.

Team USA will feature Kemba Walker and De'Aaron Fox at point guard.

Got an idea...since noone really cares....and "withdraws" seems to be code for either "cut" or "never intended to play and is using camp for off season training" why dont you just tell us when the final roster comes out.

CJ McCollum said that if they guaranteed him a spot on the 2020 Olympic Team, there's a good chance he and a lot of other second-tier guys would have stayed in.

And if they get hurt or have a terrible season...what then? You cant guarantee spots this early.

It kind of goes both ways though. Paul George is recovering from surgery now, but next April decides he wants to play, what would you do if you're Pop or Colangelo? Say "sorry" to a healthy CJ, who put in the work the previous summer? I think you can guarantee spots and have backups, like from the Select team, but to not reward the guys with an Olympic Berth after they put in the work in the FIBA tournament would be pretty slimy.

Wow! Dude could've made his claim on the team. FIBA and USA Basketball will have to figure this issue out.
