Dirk, I remember staying up to watch that run with my mom scream every 10 mins to go back to bed.

The way his hood sticks to the back of his head is mythical.

The way his skinny jeans cuts off circulation in his legs is also legendary.

It's hard to see how KG did all those signature illegal KG screens with such skinny legs.

Arguably the greatest offensive power forward ever vs. arguably the greatest defensive power forward ever.

KG's doomed never-ending slog on awful Timberwolves teams ended by immediately winning a title as soon as he got shipped to a talented team. Screaming anything is possible, winning DPOY while captaining one of the greatest defenses ever. KG is the most versatile and ferocious front court player to ever play. Despite being a 20+ppg scorer most of his career, what made him special was his elite defense, incredible passing, solid shooting, elite rebounding. He did it all like almost no one else has.

vs.

Dirk's 2011 mega alpha dog title where he took down every big boss the decade had in one legendary playoff run. Lebron, Kobe, Wade, Durant, Westbrook, Harden, Bosh, Gasol, Aldridge... all lay in ruin at the big german's feet. Regardless of that run, I feel like casual fans dont understand that Dirk is one of the greatest playoff performers of all-time. His humiliating loss to the we believe warriors makes people think that Dirk was soft and needed to toughen up, or needed to figure some stuff out. This guy was unstoppable in the playoffs pretty much every year. He went to the WCF as a 24 year old and went to the finals twice. His team was just never quite as good as Duncan's Spurs or Shaq's Lakers. He played in the West his whole career. It's not crazy to think that if Dallas was an Eastern Conference team, they might have played in 9 finals or something crazy like that. Dirk's playoff stats are insane. Look em up. I've even heard very convincing research that Dirk is a top 3 all-time playoff scorer (Ben from Thinking Basketball)

Dirk for sure. Led franchise to only title and also didn't need to go to the winniest franchise in order to win.

KG was the player of the 00s but Dirk's 2011 run is the stuff of dreams.

People remember kg as the bully that couldn’t win anything on his own in the west and had to be part of a big 3 to win anything.

Meanwhile, dirk beat Kobe & Gasol (last 2 nba champs), Kd, Harden & Westbrook (future mvps), lebron and dwade (two of the top 10 players of the last decade and a half) en route to a title.

Well both players are about equal but Dirks career was more unique so I take him as far as being more legendary.

However, Dirk's 2011 run gets slightly overrated, it wasn't on the level of 1994 Hakeem or 2003 Duncan or 2019 Kawhi.

His best series was vs nick freaking Collison. Nick collison really? Any top 50 player ever can light his ass up. Heat LeBron and Wade didn't figure out how to co exist yet, Pau Gasol was having personal issues and was playing soft as hell. Dirk was great but the circumstances of his opponents made the run slightly overrated.

eh they both are legendary and I can't pinpoint.

KG was THE COOL KID And THE MAN when I was growing up. 6'11 PF who can shoot jumpers, elite defense, elite post up moves and handle the ball. He was the original unicorn. In this current Era he would be Anthony Davis. KG was never a high scorer but he would put up 25-28ppg today.

Dirk on the other hand was even more of a unicorn. 6'11 3 point shooter from Europe that can kill a team offensively. What he lacked was defense but Dirk was ungaurdable for a a long time.

Dirk's a 7-footer. KG is 6'12". What's more legendary?

Gotta go with Dirk but it's close. His 2011 run was legendary.

If you grew up playing ball in the 90’s in the US is KG and it’s not close. We knew who this guy was when he was a freshman in HS.
Hey Man, nice shot!

Dirk. He is arguably the greatest German athlete ever, and that is pretty legendary.

Are you seriously suggesting that Kevin Garnett wasn't an elite defensive player? Are you aware that Dirk wasn't being exclusively guarded by KG, in that series KG was roaming as a zone defender, he wasn't on Dirk. Not to mention that Dirk had Steve Nash and Michael Finley, among others on his team and got smoked by the Kings in the next round.

Dirk. He changed the way 7 footers play the game.

Also had a memorable championship run with a bunch of good role players and nothing else.

Dirk's 2011 run is so overrated, but it's constantly brought up so probably him. I still think KG is the better player tho.

I actually found that kind of hilarious. Someone on the best or 2nd best team in the league screaming "anything is possible", like they were supposed to have no chance of winning or something. It cracked me up.

OT: Dirk easily.

Dirk takes it.

I think Olajuwon was the best foreign player ever

2011 makes him a legend. Especially since it's just such redemptive run too - making up for the tough loss against the Heat at a time everyone wrote him off, cementing himself as a top 20 if not top 15 guy. Dirk was a legend.

And IMO for a few years in the mid 2000s the #1 player in the NBA.
