both?

Id like to see a 1 vs 1 competition or maybe a 1vs 1 dunk contest where the other 1 is a rim-protecting big instead of the current dunk contest.

they just need to replace the dunk contest with the drunk contest. Take a shot every time the other team scores. First team to have a player throw up, pass out, or quit loses.

You're old. Not a single person has made a complaint about the dunk contest in recent memory. Not a soul.

The Aaron Gordon/Zach Lavine contest was great. If that wasn’t exciting for you, you’re probs never going to enjoy it again.

The biggest issue isn't neccarily the dunks, though it is a massive component, but that the big time stars are seemingly dodging it unlike in the past.

I still don't understand why LeBron never decided to compete in it. Sure, he may have never won it, but who cares. There were some really great players who lost in the dunk competition and 3 point competition, and it didn't diminish their legacy. Hell, Jordan once competed in the 3 point contest and stunk it up, no one ever talks about that. It would have been amazing just to see LeBron compete and it would have garnered plenty of buzz.

The league needs to do everything they can to get Zion to compete.

It got boring. The rules are slightly terrible.

But every once in a while there's a contest that stands out and lives up. So it's not old.

I love the dunk contest but after Zach LaVine/Aaron Gordon it has been pretty lame.

Dream lineup for next Dunk Contest would be Zion, Gordon, Zach and Mitchell.

Definitely old.

If you've noticed that many things have become irrelevant as you get older.

Dunk contest has been crap for the past decade aside from like 1 or 2 years (that Gordon vs Lavine one will be considered one of the best dunk contests of all-time). It's come to the point that I've stopped watching it for 5 years, even missing the year that it was actually good.

I think it's because of the advent of the internet, and access to so many dunk videos.. We've seen it all a million times, and slight variations of things we've seen aren't going to get us hyped.

Plus there is something different when stars and superstars participate against each other, as opposed to all the young guys or scrubs .

I honestly could care less about stars competing in a dunk contest..I just want to see the best dunkers going at it.

As far as the dunk contest its a culmination of over exposure to dunks due to internet/youtube so the suprise element is somewhat ruined as well as the bar being raise meaning the degree of diffculty of dunks to execute the dunk on 1st attempt..thus more missed attempt. ITs much harder to land a 360 eastbay than a dominique wilkins windmill. If jordan and dominique competed today ppl would be bored to death..but bc it was two superstars doing fresh or new dunk at that time its viewed upon favorably.

This.

As soon as the stars decided that the Dunk contest was no longer prestigious and left it to rookies and sophomores, the quality had taken a huge hit.

Not too long ago, MJ, Kobe, VC, Iverson, hell Tracy McGrady all competed in the dunk contest and really took a lot of pride in trying to take it.

People don’t care just about who can do the best dunk, we want to see the best players in the league compete amongst each other to see who’s the best dunker out of them. If fans wanted to purely see hard-to-do dunks by anybody, there’s a ton of footage of that on YouTube and amateur dunk contests.

The Gordon 2016 performance was legendary. The kid did some insane never before seen dunks. Such creativity.

As others have said, it's because we've seen all the dunks. The older competitions had more room for error because what they were doing was seen as "fresh".

Honestly at this point it would take Spiderman, Nightwing and Daredevil competing in the dunk contest to make it exciting again.

stars (shoe companies) take it way too seriously and don't participate.
