D Wade Closer to Michael Jordan or Paul Pierce

Jordan. 06 Wade was a pretty damn good MJ impression. 34.7 pts 7.8 rebounds 3.8 assists plus 2.7 steals and 1 block a game was what he averaged in the finals. Pierce was good but he was never that good.

Jordan. If Wade's body had cooperated he could have been a top 10 player of all time. As it stands, he was still much, much, much more impactful than Pierce was in their respective primes and peaks. Those 09 and 10 Heat teams would have been winning 30 games if you replaced Wade with Pierce at his best.

Prime Wade destroyed the Pistons. Wade and Ginobili were the two guys the 2004-2005 Pistons couldn't stop.

Haven't seen any real argument for Pierce here. Doing the laziest thing (glancing at adv stats) shows that Wade reached some ridiculous heights at his peak peak--he had a VORP of 9.4 in '09-10, a number that only about 5 players have reached in the last decade for any particular season. (No one aside from Lebron did it more than once in the last decade, and Lebron only did it twice).
Pierce never got remotely close to that level in any one season--I'd guess he never finished top-5 in any advanced stat let alone post a true all-time monster couple of season like Wade did. Wade's peak postseason #s also completely destroy Pierce's, with his best 4 years of playoff BPM nearly doubling Pierce's best 4.

Also as I remember it, Wade was basically unguardable and defenses had to just hope they could force him into less convenient spots, while Pierce needed to put a lot more effort into shot creation. Both could get a bucket in crunch time but Wade could make something happen more or less at will at any point in the game.

Wade is the type of guy you can build around and win a title.
Pierce is a great player but always 2nd best on a title team like a Manu Ginobli. Pierce lacked playmaking ability and was an average athlete.

Wade is closer to Jordan, Pierce is closer to Manu.

Career wise, it's pretty much a coinflip because Wade broke down too fast and was always hurt.

Even if we're not bringing up Jordan who is the overall GOAT, Wade is still closer to the upper echelon of SG's(Kobe, Logo, Clyde) than Pierce is to other SF's. There's clearly a gap between that group and someone like Pierce lol

Prime is hard because Wade isn't one of those guys that had a real stretch of dominance due to his injuries. 05 and 06 then 08 and 09 plus 12 would would probably be his best seasons, so it's really hard. If I can cut out 07 and consider just 05/06/08 and 09 then yeah it's Jordan. Especially Peak wise 09 Wade is the closest thing to Jordan period. Not Kobe/Lebron etc. Wade 09 was the closest thing to Jordan ever.

People stay sleeping on PP. For the record, there are more greats who were SFs than there were SGs. So honestly, your argument that "Wade is a Top 5 SG and Pierce wasn't" really isn't logically sound when comparing primes.

With that said, Wade > Pierce and he's still closer to Paul than he is to MJ. That's how big the gap is between MJ's tier and Wade's tier (Which I have 30-35).

um, you just proved his point. Paul Pierce was actually a better defender when he was younger, and was a very good one. You just likely watched ESPN Sports Center and didn't know much about Paul Pierce until the big 3 was formed.

Remember when 39-year-old Jordan was taking Pierce off the dribble routinely, it was incredible, because Pierce is a decent defender and was at his peak, and this very slow version of Jordan made it look easy to drive by him
Jordan 1st-step is other-worldly, while Pierce was always extremely slow.
