Who Should Start At SF This Year?

Post#1 » by HairyGOATee » Thu Aug 15, 2019 4:33 am

Assuming that Luka starts at SG, then who should start at SF this year?

Options Include...
Justin Jackson
DFS
THJ
Ryan Broekhoff
Courtney Lee
Roby

I think Luka starts at the "1" on offense and mostly the "3" on defense. I imagine he'll be bringing the ball up the court at least half the time, but he's not quick enough to keep up with the best guards.

Depending on the matchup and Carlisle's doghouse I think the most common lineups are Curry-Wright-Luka and Wright-Luka-Jackson. I don't think Curry was signed to start at the 1 this season, but he'll end up there because Carlisle used him well there before. '16-'17 record was 20-22 with Curry starting, 13-27 in other games.

Yeah, I think the other wing starter next to Luka will be a fluid situation. I hope it's JJ, but I do like Curry. However, I do like the idea of bringing Brunson, Curry, and THJ together off the bench.

What do you think of DFS or THJ in the starting lineup?

THJ is someone you want coming off the bench when KP and Luka are healthy, but if either guy is out, then give him the start.

DFS can start, sure, but I think JJ is the ideal starter tbh.

3 and 8

7 would be our best offensive lineup and 8 would be our best defensive.

I'd start with #8 and close with #3.

Boban could end up starting as he continues to develop and gets in shape enough to play longer.

Justin Jackson gets the nod at SF, I think.

Moves well without the ball. Good size. Can knock down the three ball well enough to not be left open. Which automatically translates to more spacing for KP and Luka to operate.

I hope he can improve his cutting and slashing ability though.

Do you think he emerges as the team's #3?

I think he's definitely better than our other options. :D

I don't see any defensive switch potential with Jackson, so that kind of limits the lineups you can play him in (note RC's comment about fluid starting lineups).

I'm also still not sure if he does any one thing really well. Seems like a jack of all trades, master of none.

Excited to see what kind of player he becomes. It's easy to see similarities to Josh Howard in his game and think maybe "3rd option" is within his reach. But that would take a unilateral improvement and that's a lofty expectation.
